Be Careful Out There

Being in crypto you soon realize how many scammers there are around and you need to be vigilant at all times. This seems to become a bigger problem when the crypto prices rise and was not expecting to experience so much now.

Discord is an easy way to communicate with the various communities and have heard of accounts being stolen etc so I am fully aware there is people around up to no good. I do not do other social media stuff like Telegram because if you are not clued up on these apps you are easy pickings. If I was not wide awake to this and experienced enough to spot when something is not right then I can understand why people get scammed.

Last week I had two of my last remaining pools on the COTI Treasury become unlocked after being locked for 365 days. This unlocking happens automatically without further action required from yourself.

As you can see from the above screen shot they still are in the submitted phase and the team needs to correct this. I queried this o the COTI Treasury discord and received half a dozen replied offering their advice directing me to "COTI support". I know the moderators controlling that particular discord are highlighted in yellow so waited for their response. It would have been easy to take someone's word for it that this is the correct link. Sadly in todays world there seems to be a scammer around every corner.

I followed the moderators advice and emailed the official COTI support which am now waiting for it to be rectified. This morning I received a direct message from the moderator asking if it had been resolved and if not he would help. Again I ignored this message even though it looked genuine and contacted the moderator directly only to be told he had sent no such message.

The fact is no one will contact you directly unless you have direct messaged them first and should be a rule we all follow. Rather wait and double check on everything because apparently on discord it is easy to copy and impersonate others so what my look real and genuine is quite the opposite.

Fortunately I am no fluttering social media butterfly and have very limited activity mainly down to the fact I do not enjoy it unless chatting to my HIVE and COTI community contacts. I see the advantages of using the likes of discord but it is full of individuals looking to rob you out of your crypto.

One can only imagine how bad things will become when we see a 10 x price rise and we are talking about portfolios in the hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars. Security and common sense needs to remain at the top of whatever we do and remember to trust no one unless responding to a DM you requested.

thanks for this insightful information, these scammers are so real

Double checking everything seems to hit the nail on the head

I had a scammer reach out to me one time after I asked a simple question as well. It's pretty sad they have stooped so low.

Yes that seems the norm now and then they delete their message of help shortly afterwards. I can see many falling for this because your first thought is that someone in the community is helping out.

Yeah, they do that before the mods can see it and warn you. Pretty classless!

It is exactly like this, a year ago I also gave away my ghee by mistake, then immediately they took out all the things I had read, so I was very sad if we work on this industry. If there is too much to do, you have to be careful.
