Interesting... I find where I tend to "get lost" is in the interim between "here" and "there."
What is the time horizon?
In a distant future where almost everything might be 3d printed at the cost of a few cents, perhaps small autonomous communities will be possible, if a group of 1,000/5,000 individuals form something like a co-op to acquire the 3D-printing equipment, in the first place. Although, to mind-bend a bit further, perhaps that 3D printer is 3D printed, itself.
The biggest hurdle is surely psychology and mindset. Greed can only be eliminated if greed becomes an irrelevant attribute. Which — as far as I can see — would require the entire idea of "competition" and "asserting dominance" to be moved purely to the arena of sports and recreation.
The idea of living in a world of true abundance rather than scarcity is too much of a stretch for most to visualize.
It's ultimately the "battle" of whether we end up with a "Hunger Games" reality, or a "Star Trek" reality.
6D printing!
