Begging is one of the weakest things a human being can do 👎
I'm sure we all know what it is like to drive up to a red light and have to sit right next to someone with a sign asking for money. It's one of the worst feelings to have to try to not make eye contact with the person. I mean I feel for anybody who is in a bad situation, but I also never know who is lazy or drug addicted and who actually was just dealt a terrible hand in life. In turn, I don't ever give out money to people like this, people we call panhandlers here in the USA.
I just had a lady the other day bombard me as I was getting out of my car at the grocery store. She cornered me between my open door and her. She was going on about how she needed money for food to feed her 5 kids and I was just like, this is not how you go about getting help. I can't imagine just walking up to regular people that you don't even know and asking them to give you something. That is not the world that we live in any longer.
I know I'm not the only person who thinks that beggars need to find a different way to get ahead in life. It's quite pitiful to see someone spend an entire day asking for money when they could just as easily be spending that day working a job. I will never understand how someone can just stop caring about life so much that they think just waiting for others to give them some change here and there is enough to get by. It's not always a choice, but most of the time it is.
The reason I say all of this is the fact that we have quite a few beggars here on Hive. You know, the people who randomly comment on your post for the first time and ask you to visit their post and upvote it. I don't notice it happening as much as I used to, but it still occurs sometimes. How is this any different than being a panhandler begging for money on the side of the road? It's equally embarrassing to me and I certainly wouldn't ever want to be that kind of person. Luckily, you have many other options on how to succeed on Hive.
I highly encourage you to never beg for upvotes here. It's not going to work and most people are going to be annoyed by that. Some may even decide to downvote you if you get under their skin enough. There's literally no point to waste your time asking.
Instead, I suggest that you go about things more naturally. Take the time to realistically interact with others. Don't set expectations that just because you upvoted them, they will upvote you. That will set you up for disappointment. Just stay consistent with what you are doing and put forth your best effort and the results will show themselves.
Do you think I am being too harsh comparing beggars on Hive to panhandlers in the real world? It would take a lot to convince me otherwise. I put them both in the same category and I think many will agree with me on this.
If you are new to Hive, let this be a valuable lesson for you. Please, for the love of life, do not beg for upvotes.

Cities in Canada, if you're smoking, it's impossible to walk somewhere without being asked for a cigarette. It always goes something like this, "Hey man. Can I buy one of those? I'll give you a buck." Everyone knows they're overpaying for that cig on street, but it's fine.
In life, I've been down to my last dollar. Came very close to being trapped and homeless permanently. Becomes very difficult to get a job for instance, if you had no place to shower before the interview and your clothes are dirty.
So instead of panhandling, I'd hustle people. Get my hands on some cigs, put one in my mouth as a signal or beacon to attract a mark, and walk up and down the street, for hours, selling cigs at a premium to anyone that asked. It wasn't hard to take one of those dollars, negotiate, a buy two or three cigs for a buck. With enough time I could easily convert something like two or three cigs into enough money to be able to smoke, drink coffee, and eat. Plus nobody was getting ripped off. Those people were literally handing out dollars. It was their choice. I was simply accommodating them.
Before all that, I used to be so annoyed when someone would offer a buck for a cig. Later used it to my benefit and often wondered how many others were up to the same games.
Some of those folks holding the signs and doing nothing drive pretty nice cars. It's an act.
I get asked for cigarettes here all of the time and I've never even smoked one in my life. I get it though, the more people you ask the more likely you are to get one.
Can't believe you used to slang individual cigs like that. That's gotta look epic on a resume 😉 Also that is such a better way than begging for money on a corner with a sign.
I once saw a group of people rotating who held the sign. After their shift was over, they'd walk down the hill and get in this big van they were sharing. This happened when I was very young so it impacted how I view these types of things a lot.
If you just try to bum smokes for free, you'll hear "No" all day. Some would look at smoke in my mouth, or see me holding a pack out in the open (another way to signal), hold up a dollar coin without even asking. Outside of a bar in the evening would be like a gold mine. Nobody ever suspected I was struggling either. Would just blend right in.
Vote begging here comes in a few other forms. Some directly ask, like you've pointed out. Others are playing the victim card, exploiting pity, making others feel sorry for them, playing on their heartstrings. And of course it's all a ruse. Can't be "sick and dying" or experiencing "family emergencies", yet be here daily, for several years, talking about it. Those con artists can be quite convincing though...
That’s some pretty genius tactics you were using.
Maybe I’m cold hearted, but I usually don’t fall for those sympathy stories. There have been only a few that made me want to do what I could to help. Now genuine pain and suffering, that’s totally different and a lot more obvious that it is truthful.
Comes across as genuine when someone is showing signs of struggling, and that's out of character or unusual.
I don't think it's cold hearted. More like it's normal. If every sob story was met with the attraction and help from gullible minds, you'd see a never ending stream of "new accounts" in turmoil surrounded by the help of strangers. That's simply not how life works though.
I think it's wise to always consider every possible outcome including the thought someone might be taking you for a ride. For your own safety as well. Old lady could flag you down, tell you she needs help moving a chair, so you enter her home, and three days later you're still tied up in the basement while some crazy guy prances around wearing only socks.
I remember the last time I fell for this trick. Never again. That basement was cold and smelled god awful.
I know all about it...

Yeah, begging isn't exactly the right way to bring value to the table haha. I mean, why does anyone think he's better and entitled to a free meal? If u have 10 hours to beg then u certainly have 8 hours to work... Of course, there are some people that really had it tough, but those will probably find a way to get themselves out.
As for Hive, I wouldn't blame beggars completely because everyone gets hooked on the idea of getting money. We can all agree that Hive doesn't have enough social elements to be considered a typical "soc med platform". However, I'm looking forward to seeing Hive positioning itself as a playground for devs/businesses to build their products upon it.
I think we need only one app that will create a sustainable model whereby its users won't be solely attached to the idea of getting money but rather grinding the status.
This sounds like the ideal future!
Scammers are real man! Someone posted in a fb group in my area that they were looking for $ as they just got a job, but wouldn't have no lunch money until next week when they get their first pay. A bunch of people sent money to him, and then he was on the site looking to buy a gaming monitor. His excuse when confronted was that he bought a weeks worth of lunch, had some money left over and went to the slot machines and won 500 bucks, and that was what he was buying the monitor with.
And then his girlfriend posted the next week asking for money and no one helped em.
For hive, back when I was a frequent in the discord one of the things I saw people asking, or complaining about is how they never get upvoted, and if you looked at their history, you'd see their posts were either just complete poop, or the only thing they did was post and never commented or engaged with other people. Not sure if people are still like that in the different discords now though.
I wonder how on earth he got caught buying that gaming monitor. All respect for that guy has been lost.
I'm sure the complainers do still exist, but there aren't as many as there used to be. They either moved on or decided to buckle up and start working harder.
Oh, he posted in another yardsale site like 2 days after he made the post begging for money that he was looking to buy a second hand gaming monitor.
Actually, I once met an internet beggar. He went through the Telegram groups asking who could donate a small amount in cryptocurrencies for I don't remember what. Many helped him until we discovered his modus operandi.
So I don't think your comparison is wrong. It is what they do and who they are.
At university, a philosophy professor made us think about the following: If you give money to a beggar, he will always remain a beggar. If you don't give it to him, he may mobilize and do something with his life, or he may not eat today.
It's a pretty complex dilemma if you think about it. By not giving him money, you may actually be helping him (or not).
I share your point of view and I believe that it is much better to educate, teach and provide tools so that everyone can manage and eventually achieve success.
Chinese proverb: "Give a man a fish and you will feed him for a day, teach him to fish and you will feed him for the rest of his life".
This is one of the main reasons I don't like to give to beggars.
I think we should still be kind to people who are struggling, but there are more ways to assist than just giving them your money.
hahahah I loved the cover picture, so have you asked any AI to do a homeless version of you, this guy looks like you man, I mean physically.
I'm totally agree with you, you need to trust in your abilities, if you're a good content creator you don't need to ask for upvotes. Your content will speak for you. There is another way that can confuse people, if you have a big community (like you) there is nothing bad in leave the ways that people can use to support you. Because we are your fan base, and we need to know how we can help to make you grow. That's a different thing.
I have not. But I did just use it to make me look old and I will be sharing that next week.
Believing in yourself is the best way to get others to believe in you too 😉
Oh!, hope you didn't got upset about my comment comparing you with the homeless, sorry man.
Not at all man. I am not offended by anything ever.
It takes a whole lot of dehumanizing to beg for the first time and when the reception is positive, the next time won't feel as bad and when a method of begging isn't working they upgrade- How? To a sulky sad tale that will work at drawing out the inborn mercy within humans.
A woman's tale was told about the misfortune that befell her and how she begged on the streets with her little ones for years. When help came, a house was given to her and a little shop to startup a business, so she never begs. She sold the content of the house for scraps and those things she could not sell she abandoned to sit back on the street to beg. For her begging felt easier than the progressive growth of handling a business or the likes. Who knows.
I agree, begging is the weakest things a human can do.
Thank you for a lovely piece💕
You have to be very low to get to the point of begging. I've thankfully never been there and am pretty bad at asking other people for things.
Yeah! Same here
A lot of the time I upvote accounts that never upvote my content. I simply put my thoughts and ideas out there... what happens, happens...

Me too, it’s just how it goes sometimes.
Some of the beggars in real life have to do this, there are people who have no arms and they cannot work, but this is not the case for Hive. Upvote is a choice, never an obligation. Nobody upvotes you because they have to. They vote because they like your content. These are different things. I hope people can realize that begging for votes doesn't do anything. I don't see many of these people these days.
There are legitimate beggars, but there are also a lot of scammers and lazy people who could be doing much better.
I rarely see people begging for votes anymore, so I think we have made and continue to make great progress as a community.
I think comparing them makes the point you're making more understandable. Begging is generally shunned by people and I personally don't like it too, especially the nagging ones! Going natural is the better way forward, working hard and giving your best.
There are very few people who give to beggars, but it's the ones that give the handout that enables beggars to exist. I wish we all would just put forth some effort and grind hard in life rather than taking the easiest route available.
I wish that too. The easiest route sucks and there isn't any fun in it. Growth happens through challenges and exerting oneself on the grind.
PLeaze MR. DALTONO! 🙏
if u vote me 100%, I will vote u 100%!
yea, i hate that!
I know we can agree on this subject my dude.
Just being there helps too. People notice you, and get curious! I'm always checking out the newbs that come into our server lol.
Surely it must feel much more rewarding to be noticed naturally rather than asking for the attention.
I gave you an upvote without asking :)
And I also thank you very much for upvoting my posts :)
I love cars, so it's an easy upvote from me. From one car enthusiast to another, I salute you.
You are right. This is why I always try my best to engage with a lot of people instead of begging for upvotes. It can be very annoying and I won't like it if someone does that to me too.
Sometimes we are seen begging various strong people on the streets which is very painful to see. They can do good if they want. Even more people who are weaker than them are employed.
There are plenty of jobs out there for people to work instead of begging. At least that's how it is here in the USA.
sir pls upbote
I am totally agree with you, beggers can't be choosers, they always become the slaves of those whom they beg.
I would hate to feel like I always owe people something. When all you do is take and never give, that's what happens usually.
I myself am against the idea of you getting wet, but we have a culture that if you don't give money to someone, he curses you in return and if you give money, he prays, so some people get emotional blackmail.
AGree with you, begging won't give you anything, You should create quality content and let other read it and reward you if they want to .
That's the idea 💡
no need to go to extremes if you have what it takes to succeed
You are absolutely right it should not be done like this one should just work hard when your work is good then you will surely get reward. A man should work hard day and night, if he does it in this way then one day he will surely succeed.
Hermano yo leo tu contenido y admiro tu forma de escribir es muy original y te felicito por tu sinceridad. Saludos que estes bien.
I am agree with your opinion, make success must work hard
