There is never a good time to have car issues ❤️🩹
January 2023 has been a rough month in terms of my car. This is now the third time in one month having to take my car to the shop to get worked on. I haven't had issues like this with my car for a long time, but now that I'm about to eclipse 167k total miles on the body and around 111k on the engine, things are starting to break. I'm not ready to purchase a new car yet, as much as I'd love one. So I've just been paying out of pocket for all of the issues that come up.
The year began with a flat tire, welcome to 2023 I guess. The car was out of commission for a week waiting on the new tire to come in, but luckily I was reimbursed for most of the costs due to a warranty.
Less than 2 weeks later my car broke down on me and I was without it for four days. I ended up having to pay $627 for a new alternator. It ran fine for three days, but then something else decided to fail and make my car undrivable.
The latest issue is another busted rear spring this past Thursday night. I've already replaced both rear springs in the last five years, one of them is less than two years old. The older one just randomly broke again while I was driving, so now I'm replacing both of them just to be safe. They cost about $200 a piece, so there's another $400.
Thank goodness I wasn't in the middle of an Instacart order when this happened, oh wait I was. I luckily was able to deliver the groceries and make it back to the body shop before my car gave out on me all the way again. I then had to walk over a mile in the dark from the shop back to my downtown apartment.
As much as I'd love to have a lowered car, mine is definitely not supposed to look like this. The left is the front suspension, which is fine versus the back which is non-existent.
I also noticed a new whistling sound every time that I accelerated. It was as if the turbo on my car had gotten louder, but that's not something a new alternator makes happen. I knew that yet again there was something else not right. I'm thankful for my skillful ears because they are what helped the shop find that I had a faulty PCV valve. When these things go bad, your engine will corrode at a rapid rate and that obviously is not good. It was essential to get a new one. This will cost me about $800. Now we are up to $1,200 total for this trip.
I just started my new job driving for Instacart. I've been making some pretty good money and enjoying doing it too. In just two weeks I've already earned $640. Sadly, my car repairs for the month are now up to around $1,850 and I've had to miss nearly a week of potential work.
The shop said I should have my car back once again midway through this week. Sitting around idle just plain sucks, especially when I'm dying to get back out there and resupply my depleting funds by working through Instacart. I'm not joking when I saw I actually really love this job and the money it provides me will be very helpful once I'm not having to spend all of it on car repairs.
Even with these setbacks, I still have a great deal of savings, but I really would rather not have to sell a bunch of crypto at these prices, even with some slight pumps this month. I'm going to rely on my cash reserves for this one, so let's hope that HIVE continues to rise in the price instead of declining once more so that this will be a wise decision by me.
I'm really (like REALLY) hoping that this will be the last car issue of 2023. I'm going to keep pushing this car until it isn't fixable anymore. Now that I'm driving a lot doing these deliveries, any potential issues that were set to come in the future will now be accelerated. It's part of the job and it won't make me quite what I'm doing.
As per usual, I plan to update again once I get my car back and see how it runs. I have faith that the shop will get my Audi back to working order and I can get back to earning $25/hr doing Instacart. I'm not worried about the money, because I know I can always make more. I'm glad that I am able to remain positive even during stressful situations such as this one.
Thanks for the support, my dear friends!

Damn that sucks man! I had to replace the PCV on my car and it was a job I did myself which was good but it was tricky to get to. That was back when I had my turbo car, I don’t know if that’s a thing with turbos or what but it was just awkward to get to.
Smart move to replace both while you’re doing it for the springs, a lot easier to do that for sure!
Fingers crossed this is the last thing you need to do for the year besides oil changes!
I imagine it would be annoying to have to do it yourself. I don't know about your old engine, but with mine, everything is just barely squeezed in there and you can't replace part (a) without removing part (b) first.
I don't think it's a turbo-only thing (could be wrong), but having a turbo definitely made it easier for me to hear the problem before it became much worse. I knew my turbo hadn't been that loud for 10 years, so something had to be up. Although I am far from a mechanic, I at least am in tune with my car.
Man that sucks. Sorry this is happening. Hopefully it is the last thing that you have to deal with.
It's my own fault for not getting a new car when I had over 100k saved up. Lesson learned. I'm sure this thing will be back in my possession pretty soon, hopefully by end of the day today.
Old car problem. I am having it too right now. Radiator blew up last month, last week one of the pulleys somehow broke off, making loud noise if I turned on the Air Conditioner. Today the front left shockbreaker doesn't work anymore.
I am lucky I do not have to spend as much as you for the repairs, however the lost of time due to repair and service is really annoying. I feel you bro
Oh, that sounds like a mess. I feel for you because it is no fun watching something you rely on so heavily break. Time and money are both costly to lose.
Damn, I'm so sorry to hear that. Grrr...well Feb will be much better! I try to always look on the bright side but sometimes it's hard when things like this keep happening. It will pass though and in the end your car will be much safer and in greater shape for the work flow.

February better be the complete opposite of January. HIVE going back up in price would erase all the bad times from 2023 so far.
You ain't lying lol. Hive's day is coming

I know that feeling, I had such experience late year, but I had to take my car to a different shop entirely and it hasn't develop any fault since then aside the services and change of body parts, give that a try too, it might work for you as well.
You and I both know how much it can suck. Luckily, things like this eventually are resolved and we can move on.
That's true bro
More car problems? that is so unlucky
Yeah, pretty bad indeed. I know that my car is getting pretty old, so these things will happen. Let's hope this is the last issue for a long time.
It sure is annoying when you have car trouble. Just out of the garage myself.
Literally so freaking annoying. I love driving and now I drive to do my job too. Missing out on both sucks, but luckily I can still walk to everything else I do daily.
Sad to hear, I feel you, friend of mine owns a local car repair shop, most of the cars they work on are European cars, are those cars expensive, its weird the springs broke that fast it shouldnt, but at least you did well and have savings, hope you get you car back soon 💪🤟
Although their parts are quite a bit more expensive than the average car, I think the drive quality more than makes up for that.
I have no clue what happened with my springs. This will be my third set in 10 years.
Thats for sure, most european cars have a higher quality when it comes to comfort and driving them, its like sitting in a nice couch, locally in my country Korean and Japanese cars are predominant, so European cars is a luxury
The couch comparison is a great way of explaining it.
I was just about to say that having a positive attitude is one of your strengths. But apparently you yourself mentioned the "positive" in your last paragraph.
I am glad to know you are staying positive and optimistic that everything will be fine.
It's true that maintaining an older one costs more, but many customers will order from you, and it depends on your Audi.
Keep the spirit, Bro.
There is no reason to let things bring you down lower than you need to be. I just keep envisioning my car back in action.
You have made a good income in two weeks but unfortunately you have to spend a lot of money to repair your car and also have to take time off from work. Good luck to you.
Surely at some point my costs will be lower than my income and it'll all be worth it.
Heck I'm sorry for these new problems!
However, a positive attitude is the right one, you'll get the car back in all its parts and you'll start grinding mileage, work and money again and you'll recover everything, I'm sure!
Sending you all my positivity Bro!
Thanks, but things like this happen when a car is old and driven hard. I'm aiming for at least 200k miles before I'm finished with this car. Unless crypto makes a huge comeback, then I'll make the swap asap.
Well 200k miles is a good yield for a car, isn't it?
I hope for you and for us that cryptocurrencies will lead us to have our financial independence so that we can do some things that are necessary to us in a serene way without having to work hard every time eh eh!
I really hope your car continues to work to transport you wherever you want, and take care of yourself, drive slowly and test the car little by little. I liked the part where you praise your ability to hear sounds to identify that something is wrong.
I find it very interesting that you know about cars.
Greetings and lots of abundance to you
Thank you, I have faith that things will be better now. It is very hard for me to resist the temptation to drive fast, but I've been taking it easier on this car than I did when I first got it.
Oh thats so sad man. Even when my car breaks down, I am given a fixed amount in Pakistani rupees. About three months ago today when I was driving and it was night time, I did not see a jam due to which my car tire also burst. Then when I went to get his new tire, a new tire of 30,000 had arrived. Then after that, nothing worked in the car till now. But you have to take the car to the workshop three times in a month. After some time you will have to change this card otherwise it will continue to keep you going round the workshop. The person who is successful in life is the person who is not bothered by such tension.
I wish us both the best. The fewer car troubles the better for us.
Thanks dear.
Oof. I’m super grateful to still be rocking my 05 Highlander. Lol. Couple small issues in recent years, but it’s been a beast. Not looking forward to a monthly payment after this long. Lol.
It does feel good to be able to push an older car longer. I haven't had a monthly payment in like 6 years, so I dread that too. It sure feels good having a new car though.
Yeah I’m dreading it. But I’m thinking at some point in 2023, I might have to make to hard decision….hopefully end of 23. Lol.
Just think all the unluckiness just means you're about to get really lucky!
That's exactly what I'm thinking!
😣🤜 oh man, that sucks!
Cars are just breakdowns waiting to happen (at just the wrongest time) :P
but they are too cool to NOT.. :)
The day cars become invincible and don't require maintenance would be the greatest day.
or maybe
😉😁💪
I hope that I can soon, yes, it is possible to change the car since I imagine due to the continuous use of the last days and the mileage is already failing for these reasons
This is a situation that takes man off balance financially because you never planed for such spending and there is no way to avoid it because you need the service of the car.
So sorry about the situation the car will still be very okay once more.
It'll be okay, I can survive just about anything. Thank you.
I like the courage, that's what helps us to overcome any trial that befalls us.
I hope that things improve for you and your friend's vehicle, and that you can buy a new one would be the best news.
The storm should clear soon.
Damn. Sorry to hear that. That's a lot all at once. It's like a double whammy with the car also not allowing you to work. Hopefully this is the last of the issues.
It sure is, but I'm managing okay. Thanks for your kind thoughts.
Glad to hear that you are managing. Good luck. 👍
car maintenance is costlier than car purchase
Pretty much
