This is an update for Splinterlands stats for February 2021.
Splinterlands transitioned to the Hive blockchain on June 1st, 2020, and we will be looking at the data starting from this period.
The land presale happened a few months ago and some marketing efforts are on now. Let’s see how things are doing.
The following topics will be covered:
- Number of games played
- Number of active daily players
- Number of active monthly players
- New Accounts created by Splinterlands
- DEC burned
- DEC Price
Number of battles played
Here is the chart of the daily numbers of games played for the period.
Splinterlands is hitting more than 100k battles played daily for a while now. There are some spikes in the chart when the number of battles per day exceeded 120k. This usually happen on the last days of the seasons.
Overall, the number of battles per day has been quite steady in the period.
Number of active players
This is one of the most important metrics for every dApp, how many active users have there are. Here is a data for daily active users [DAU] and monthly active users as well [MAU]
In the period from June 2020 to February 2021 the number of daily active players has been between 5k and 6k. In the last period it’s just above 6k active daily players.
Next, the chart on the monthly active players.
The number of MAU has dropped a bit in the period from around 10k in June to just above 9k in February 2021. Overall a steady numbers here as well.
New Accounts created by Splinterlands
Here are the new Hive accounts created by Splinterlands.
These are the numbers of accounts creation by Splinterlands, or more accurately by the @steemmonsters account. In the last months, the number of accounts created dropped compered to the previous months.
I think there was a change in the accounts creating policy from Splinterlands and they reduced the numbers of new accounts created to only the one that are actively playing.
DEC burned
Another interesting metric is DEC burned. DEC is burned when buying potions, orbs, skins and guilds upgrade. The DICE edition is exclusive bought with DEC as well and it is burnt.
Here is the chart for the all time DEC burned vs created.
Note the chart is on a logarithmic scale.
There is a huge spike in October with 1.7B DEC sent to null in a day. A few more spikes in the last month with more than 1M DEC burned per day. In the last period there seems to be an overall uptrend in the amount of DEC burned.

What about the DEC price?
Here is the chart on all time DEC price in dollars [$].
The chart for February 2021, for better visibility.
Trading between 0.0006$ and 0.0009$.
DEC is now listed on Uniswap with LPs incentives and since then the price is trading in the range above. Before this the DEC price was even at 0.005$ on some occasions.

It looks like a lot of people have stopped playing since the new ranking system. Can you confirm that?
I think it has also become much less attractive for the lower ranks.
In addition, the rewards have been extremely reduced, in that you now only get these potions for 1/3 of the time.
No I cant :)
From personal observation, it looks like there's a shift from lots of active bot players to more human players. Or bot players that I knew rarely are matched with my account.

I'm still trying to figure out what's next with the game play, It's getting to be more like work than fun, I haven't kept up with their blog so maybe I'm missing something.
