Thousands of Africans are keying into a Web3 platform called Nodo (Nodo.xyz). The platform gives rewards in USD Tether for performing tasks on the Avalanche C Chain network. Its initiatives include write-to-earn, where writers are paid depending on the traffic and popularity of their content; upvoting campaigns, where the highest ten upvoters go home with a few dollars every week; and quiz/surveys, where participants who completed the most surveys are paid.
Since the platform use the Avalanche network, all wallets used by participants, primarily Metamask and Coinbase, must first be set to Avalanche. The network possesses speed of transactions and high reliability and verifiability. However, I am yet to ascertain whether it gas frees are cheaper relative to other networks.
One major drawback of Nodo.xyz is that it is organised as a "survival of the fittest" endeavour. In other words, only the top ten participants in any initiative usually get paid. The rest go home with nothing. While the implementation of the Nodo platform has much to be desired, it is a step in the right direction to incentivise millions of Africans to hop in on the crypto community. The implications of such a move can be transformative and life changing for millions of poor Africans and for the continent as a whole. Yes, crypto currency can help propel Africa out of its poverty and into wealth.
