Good day soccer loving fans! Today I decided to visit the AFCON 2023 football competition on going in Cote D'Ivoire. The competition started on the 13th of January and will end on the 11th of February, 2024. African football stars whose countries qualified for the competition are all in attendance except for those injured or didn't make the call up list.
The competition has been not falling short of expectation,it has leaved up to the billings. Quite interesting match ups and though we know there are no minnows again in the world of football but those who have no much rich history are doing well for themselves thus far. Currently the competition is at its final group stage matches which will all be concluded this week and we finally get to know those that'll go back home and those that'll continue onto the next round.
Below is how the groups are looking now:
So I'm going to concentrate on final matches in group A which are going to played in some few minutes time.
In this group we have two former winners of the competition in Nigeria and Cote D'Ivoire, the host country. Both sides faced up in last match heading to this last game and the Nigerian super eagles won by a lone goal (penalty) which has put Cote D'Ivoire in a precarious positions if they want to qualify as they play the current group leader Equatorial Guinea who have 4points alongside Nigeria. And Nigeria are going to play Guinea-Bissau who are the weeping boys of the group with no points.
Which teams do I put my money on
To qualify in this group A stage final match I would say, Nigeria and Cote D'Ivoire who are clearly the favorites but as things are currently I think it's going to be between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea. For Cote D'Ivoire to qualify they need to beat Equatorial Guinea convincingly which I find it out to see. But Nigeria has it easy against a team with no points, they are practically out of it, so Nigeria it is. Not to mention their array of experience players known both locally and internationally.
Though football they said is not won on paper so we can only speculate.
Victor Osimhen's time to shine
Definitely, with a weak defence from Guinea-Bissau team, I can almost guarantee that Victor, the current African player of the year will bang in some goals this evening. No disrespect but if things work out in his favor we might see a hat trick.
So guys there we have it, in a few hours time we will get to know the first set of teams to qualify for the knock out stage.
Guys, what are your predictions for the matches and competition as a whole. Who do you think would be crowned the champions on the 11th of February?
