The retail giant company, Amazon, is set to launch a digital assets enterprise and is expected to unveil an NFT initiative in the spring. The company has been approaching various industry players, including layer-1 blockchains, blockchain-based gaming startups and developers, and digital asset exchanges, to participate in the project.

The initiative is said to have a focus on blockchain-based gaming and related NFT applications. A source revealed that Amazon is planning to incentivize customers to play crypto games by offering them free NFTs. The details of the project are still being worked out, but it is expected that Amazon will reveal its plans later in April this year.
Amazon “coming into the space” is “a big one” for crypto “for many different reasons, one source said.
“We knew it was possible,” the source further said. “But now it seems like it’s really happening. That’s going to affect the existing players in the space — if they execute and do this right and are smart about it.”
Another source said that Amazon executives have been reaching out to family offices in recent months to discuss the company's plans for an NFT drop with an artist. The plans for the project have reportedly evolved significantly since then.
It is currently unclear who is leading the NFT initiative within Amazon. The platform, which is said to include NFT gaming initiatives, is still in development and is expected to run on Amazon proper rather than its web-hosting platform, Amazon Web Services (AWS).
One source also revealed that Amazon has been exploring other Web3 initiatives and that it will likely to make internal hires in order to support the platform and other crypto initiatives.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has previously https://cryptobriefing.com/amazon-ceo-hints-at-nft-sales/ that the company is open to the idea of selling NFTs and that they are not ruling out the possibility of getting involved with cryptocurrencies in general.
