Understanding the Advantages of Web 3.0 Over Web 1.0 and Web 2.0

Before diving straight into the topic, let us begin by looking at the evolution of the web.

Web 1.0

Web 1.0 is referred to as read-only web because users can not interact with the web back down. What a user could only do was to go by whatever the web owner displays on the screen without having to participate.

Web 2.0

This era of the web allows participation from the user. This means users can generate content on the platforms.

Examples of Web 2.0 include YouTube, Wikipedia, Facebook, Airbnb, etc.

Web 3.0

The web2 companies have control over the information provided by the users and they also use their data for marketing purposes. For instance, some of the tech giants like Facebook and Google use their users' information for advert targeting.

In web 2 also, the companies can decide to block, suspend or even remove your account, and that implies that you have access to your account again.

I consider this power owned by Web 2 companies as unfair for users and there is a need to take this power from them and give it to users themselves, and this is where Web 3 comes in.

Web 3 is a new iteration of the internet built on the blockchain technology with the aim to have a decentralized internet.

The idea behind web 3 is to have an internet whereby users can have total control of whatever they do online. Here, users can create and own their content.

Examples of Web 3 apps (DApps)

The common examples of Web3 apps are Metamask, OpenSea, Rarible, Augur, Brave, and of course, all the Hive apps like Leofinance, Peakd etc.

Hope you got value?
