Punks on HIVE?

These HIVE NFTs seem to be all the rage. I can't say I get why there is an attraction to NFTs in general, apart from just trying to get something with a perceived value that you can then sell later to make a profit from what you pay to get it in the first place.

That's it. That's what drives the NFT market. People perceiving a value and then others doing the same and buying something with perceived value.

So people make money selling a junk image of a rock, or 8 bit punk head, whatever. It's all pretty lame art, but that isn't what matters.

The art in the NFT isn't what makes it valuable. It seems to be the notion that NFT is the only one of it's kind (even though the rock has other NFTs in other colors so whatever).

That seems to be another attraction, being the only one who owns a digital image. Punks has a similar mechanism with rarity.

Rarity is already something that works in trading card games. It might not be the only one in existence like other NFTs, but its more rare than others. So this has a perceived value over the non-rares.

Then people are willing to buy things that are rare, or are the only copy to exist. The more that others think the same and create a demand for these limited items, the more they gain in perceived value.

So that's my rundown on all the NTF stuff. I don't join and hop on the bandwagon, as I don't value them and I'm not interested in making a buck down the road from someone willing to by something I have that is perceived to be limited, rare, unique, etc.

Enjoy the fun though if you're into that stuff ;)
