From what I can read in the whitepaper, it is a measured response ... the system had already pretty much collapsed by that moment in late 2008. While people were running scared, here came this alternative to the whole collapse. More "What do we do next" as opposed to "OMG, the sky is falling." The sky had already fallen.
So Bitcoin is not the currency of fear but the currency for a new beginning?
That is how I take it, having read the financial crisis overviews and then some time later the Bitcoin whitepaper. That was very, very close to the end of the entire Eurodollar system -- but, Barack Obama's stepfather was something like a world banker, so as president, with President G.W. Bush's outgoing co-operation, he was able to figure out how to stop the foolery that was coming from here and affecting the rest of the world that had bought in. But it was CLOSE.
