RE: @zakludick's Hive Classroom of 2022 plus extended Community! - advice and tips

in LeoFinance3 years ago (edited)

I can relate to people having a greater interest in Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or the Fediverse. Firstly, some people have over fifteen years invested in those platforms; therefore, there's a greater affinity to say Facebook than Hive.

Comments

Yep, Hive has a comments capability, and of course, it all depends on:

    a. Do you have any (Human) followers?
    b. Do they like you?
    c. How active are they?

With Twitter, for example, you can guarantee that 'someone' will comment. I'd love to see some data on just how many posts on Hive get no love (as in comments) whatsoever. I suspect it's a lot? I also think that Hive doesn't lend itself well to the kind of communication (comments) that you get on other social media platforms. I know I certainly feel that my comments should at least loosely be relevant to the piece of work I'm commenting on, whereas people on Twitter don't give a damn.

"You don't get paid for posting on Facebook!"

This statement irks me, if truth be told. It's mostly put forward as a reason to use Hive by accounts that not only have a few quid in the piggy bank but also receive healthy rewards. I agree that $0.01 is far more than the naff all I would earn posting something on FB, BUT! I will have to post another 99 posts to make $1.00; that's a lot of work for such a small return which makes me think I'd have far more fun with my time chatting to my mates on the Fediverse, and I think that's the point. What is your Time worth?

NO WHALE IS GONNA DROP A BIG VOTE ON YOU!

It must be a nice feeling to know that any post you submit will be at least double figures and that any curation rewards will blow hundreds of those $0.01 posts out of the water. Sadly, low earning accounts don't see it that way. I suspect they ask themselves, "Is it worth it?" and I think my time is worth far more than $0.01!

Oh, stop moaning!

I think these are valid complaints, and we shouldn't ignore them if we want Hive to grow. There's no quick fix; you have to put the work in not only in terms of churning out posts and the quality of your posts but also in building relationships with people and building a following. I'm probably the worst person to comment on "How to succeed with Hive." I'm lazy and have far too many other interests to devote 100% of my time to Hive. Apart from Discord (Ecency), I suspect I spend 3% of my time thinking about or creating a post, so I take my hat off to members who can churn out one or sometimes two posts a day.

Right, back to "I'm on holiday" mode. TTFN

Sort:

For a lazy person you gave lots of useful feedback.

Indeed, the concept of it not being worth someone's time is irksome, but momentum can only be gained through retention and that retention can grant better momentum.

As I said, getting rewarded for your posts is not and should not be your only reason for being here.

But let's just say that a who City's model airplane club ran their posts, advertising and interactions off of Hive instead of FB? The rewards are a bonus!

And indeed, Whales do not owe us a thing. But what do whales want from us? There are 37 whale accounts who hold 49.5% of staked Hive.

They either run communities or they run DeFi.

They are generally not a content person unless that content is crypto. Some may post other things, but that's not how they became whales.

So most whales want to see adoption happen. People talk about a lot of foreboding sometimes, worried about incurring the wrath of whales. However, every so many hundred people joining Hive brings a certain amount of people who will actually use the businesses and services the whales provide and they will in turn benefit.

They did not become whales on this platform so they can be the only ones on it. They therefore love growth in numbers.

Yes... how many posts make nada? However, it is usually only the accounts that do ZERO engagement that sit with Zero votes on their posts.

Once again, a Community solves everything.

Of course you and I met on Discord and that is why I want to interact with you on the blockchain too!

And the fact that I'm incredibly good looking.
