What is DLUX?
Decentralized Limitless User eXperiences is a platform for dApps. It was built with virtual reality in mind. dApps has grown to mean a lot of things, and in general it means decentralized application.
Let's take an example you've likely used: an app from the App Store. In order to place your App you had to buy developer credentials for $100 a year, Apple will take 30% of advertising, 30% of in app purchases, and will try at length to limit your ability to make money from any other means. If you've incorporated crypto currency in to your app there's a high likelihood it won't pass the review.
Of course there are other methods of distribution. Like building a PWA, progressive webapp. This option requires you to set up a server, ssl, pay for a domain, and have the know how to set up the app. The barrier for entry for both of the avenues is >$100 per year and that's not including the knowledge you need to have in order to build it.
So what we mean by dApps we really mean is any app that can run in a web browser like a PWA... but decentralized.
Oddly enough, while nearly everything that's decentralized costs more than it's traditional counter part. DLUX can actually invert the cost. Utilizing HIVE we can provide roughly the same level of security that would be gained by setting up your own website, or paying for developer credential. As many who read this will know: You can get a Hive account for free. Once you publish your dApp you can also earn HIVE and DLUX rewards. Which is how we pay for things on our end: a 10% cut of whatever you app makes in HIVE.
DLUX incorporates some of the most advanced features of any blockchain, and enables any of its users full access to all of it's features with no addition costs (like GAS, or transaction fees)

The consensus nodes that make DLUX tokens possible utilize HP for customjson reports as well as to make and execute escrow/transfers for the DEX. HP/RCs are absurdly cheap compared to ETH, and the best thing is once you have them you don't have to buy more. There isn't a chain I'd rather invest in with these insane features and it pains me to no end that I haven't been able to stack more Hive while it was low and I've been building out these features.

I'm especially interested in seeing how this plays out with the VR apps. The popularity of cheap stand-alone headsets like the Quest 2 makes me think this market is just getting warmed up.

Exciting project. I have been following for some time now with a eye on the educational uses of DLUX. I teach high school entirely over the Internet and I am always looking for innovative tech that can help the learning experiences. I believe that there is potential here for educational applications. Have you given any thought to developing some basic 'proof of concept' applications for education? I would be happy to brainstorm some ideas.

I heard about this on the Cryptomaniacs Podcast. I'm interested in setting up a DLUX node. It sounds like the hardware requirements are minimal enough and reasonable for hobbyists.
I came here for the airdrop but stayed for what seems like a promising project!

Seriously, this is a great post and one that I hope all will read. I talk a lot about the Metaverse and how I think that is the lens to look at everything through since it is where things are going. Yet most do not realize we have VR capability right here on Hive.

It’s only a cut of what the post earns. All the comments, if you want to put ads or have your own in app purchases; you’re free to do everything from take crypto to use an API like PayPal for your checkout. Also, we don’t take a cut of any DLUX tokens you may earn. It’s the fairest way I can think of to offer a service that still has to be paid for to operate.

I am very interested in the VR aspect of Dlux and hope at some time this year to have my own VR headset. Is your system compatible, with say the Oculus quest 2?
Most of the VR we try and support can be run on the Oculus web browser! I'm not aware of any that isn't, but we've tested all our current product with it. Seeing at it's limitless in what people can put together, it's up to the people who make additional content to keep compatibility in mind.
the virtual reality for mi is an amazing point, and i always think they changue the world, and have great applicatións like work from home, medicine, all kind of therapy medicinal, etc.

Gotta admit that while I’ve delegated to your project on and off, I’ve never really come to grok it. 😅
And although https://token.dlux.io/@preparedwombat seems to indicate that I’ve got 3811255 of your tokens, I vaguely remember that for some reason a decimal point doesn’t display so I really have 3811.255 tokens. Even then though, what does that mean? Since they’re not H-E tokens, I have no idea if that represents any actual value, or how I might trade them if the spirit moved me.
You can log on to dlux.io with Hive-Keychain. There is a DEX where you can place trades between DLUX/HIVE and DLUX/HBD. They are currently trading for about 0.4 Hive though there is thin liquidity. DLUX tokens are a completely decentralized layer 2 that doesn't require an intermediary token like HE, which also means you don't need to pay a 1% in and out fee to trade... However the DEX does have small fees (0.25%) that go toward the accounts that put up collateral and execute your trade with Resource Credits.
For reasons that probably make sense to nobody but me, I just use Hivesigner and have never warmed to Keychain.

Haha, knowing how the two paradigms work keeps me from wanting to implement hive signer. But of course if you access the internet on a shared computer or only from a tablet hive-keychain just isn't an option. TBH there isn't a great option that exists for signing inside VR. This is something we'll have to work on.
Before I got that that part I was like damn, what did he delegate.
That makes sense about the decimal point. It did disappoint me when I looked at my balance.

What kind of apps do you see on DLUX? Is this going to run on the Hive blockchain somehow? I'm interested in learning more!
Everything from QR-scanned touch-free menus at your local restaurant to
minecraftblock worlds in VR to concerts and art galleries. My wildest dream is people build better local communities by posting work needed posts, having them funded, and people fixing potholes or trimming trees for real money and community reputation. This is just the step in the right direction.VR stuff is connected to Hive i think mostly that you post the finished project on hive.

So it seems VR assets are posted as Hive posts, right? Will the DLUX token be able to do something to allow evergreen rewards somehow?
Thanks for the feedback, we're constantly tweaking the front end and will take your suggestion under advisement, especially since the about page is the newest addition to the site.
The assets themselves are pinned to IPFS (interplanetary file system) and all the information about your scene including a title and description is posted to HIVE as a dApp. This is the most decentralized way we could imagine building an app store.
There is a governance staking which allows people who operate the consensus nodes to provide collateral for DEX and earn a small fee for each transaction. If you run a node and stake you can near passively earn rewards, but a curation trail would be how most non-technical people will try to earn.
I found this post after @taskmaster4450le shared it on our latest Leo Talk. THis is the first time I'm hearing about the project but it really seems to be an interesting one!

I've been watching this project since the beginning or some time near the beginning. I remember bidding for DLUX daily when you had that system. I'm a proud owner of 5066.074 tokens according to https://token.dlux.io/@kenny-crane
I'm sorry to say that I had not yet voted to support your Proposal 171 in the past but happy to say I just remedied that with a vote for it now.
Question - I see I have 0 "poweredUp" and I'm looking on the docs for info on powering up such as how to do it and what the benefit is, but I don't see much info other than it has to do with voting, similar to Hive Power I guess. So if we power up DLUX and vote for DLUX posts or vote in the DLUX 2D system, we earn more DLUX?
This is an amazing opportunity. Is developing an app on the blockchain must different than any other platform? Where would a person go to learn how to develop applications on the blockchain?

I really need to learn how to code. From my limited knowledge this sounds really cool. And Hive sounds like the perfect blockchain to build this stuff on. Do we follow you to follow this project? Sounds like an interesting project and it looks like it might be sustainable so long as there are enough users. By whatever the app makes, is this about the payments they receive like for example in a shop or game? Or is it a little more consistent like ad revenue?

Hopefully a little of A and a little of B. I hope to see decentralized services like file storage and turn servers(for streaming and gaming) being paid for with these tokens which should open up quite a market. There are already ways to earn exchange fees on the DEX or proof of brain curation, and of course future uses like content promotion(in development)
Yea it would be nice to have both. Though I don't know if some people would be interested in a flat fee per month or flat fee + adjustable fee as a option. I don't know who would want to choose that but I guess having more options is better than none.

You certainly have my attention, followed. Do you plan to delegate RCs to the dapps?
If anyone is capable of developing a PWA, I honestly think we can expect them to have the skills to deploy it as well. No rocket science there.
That being said, I still don't get the connection between this sentence and the DLUX project.
Cost. I'm not sure where you're from but $30 for a domain and $5 for a server per month is 2 weeks of pay in quite a few places. The whole point of the project was to enable people to build and share VR, and if Decentraland is the torch holder those fees are simply out of context for most people. But the methods to build and share VR just turned out to be the same as sharing any webapp. On the skills side of things we put together a WYSIWYG VR editor that packages resources on IPFS and signs a manifest to Hive...
How many DLUX of total supply? Why should we hold DLUX? How to keep DLUX have good value because there are too many hive tokens that are worthless. Those tokens are just a game to suck hive liquid from hiver users.

Currently there's about 12M DLUX. There is 5% annual inflation. But because the developers have such a major share of the project there is a 3 year program to increase supply to 100M with automated market makers buying tokens off the DEX and therefore raising the price for everyone.
On the HIVE side of things DLUX nodes use Hive RCs to form consensus and execute DEX trades. Hopefully raising both the utility and scarcity of Hive.
What is the Roadmap for the Dlux project? Any big announcements coming up next?
