#historyonleo #onthisday On February 14th 1943 German Fifth Panzer Army under General Hans Jürgen von Arnim launches offensive against Allied forces in Central Tunisia, leading to first major clash between German and US ground forces in WW2. In three day battle Germans and Italians score success over mostly inexperienced US troops, capturing large number of prisoners, including Lt. Colonel John K. Waters, son-in-law of General George S. Patton. Germans, despite scoring another, even bigger victory in Battle of Kasserine Pass shortly afterwards, would fail to exploit this success and turn the tide of campaign, ending with Axis forces surrendering in early May.
