#historyonleo #onthisday On December 26th 1825 liberal military officers and nobles, using confusion after the death of Tsar Alexander I and his brother and presumptive heir Konstantin giving up on throne, launch uprising aimed at transforming Russia into constitutional monarchy. The uprising, is crushed, its leaders, later known as Decembrists, are executed or exiled to Siberia while Alexander's younger brother Nicholas takes throne and maintains autocratic regime that would last until Revolution of 1905.
