#historyonleo #onthisday On February 1st 1662 Chinese general Koxinga, following months of siege, captures Fort Zeelandia, Dutch fortress on Taiwan. Koxinga, loyal to Ming Dynasty, which had been overthrown in mainland China decades earlier, ends Dutch rule over the island and forms independent kingdom, hoping to restore Ming in the rest of Chinese territories. The island will ultimately be annexed to Qing-controled China in 1683.
