#historyonleo #onthisday On February 6th 1934 French far-right groups stage massive rally in front of National Assembly, protesting against centre-left government, weakened by scandalous Stavisky affair. Counterprotests by anti-fascists and Communists leads to violence that would claim 19 lives. The event, later interpreted as attempted fascist coup, represented the major political crisis and shown deep ideological divisions within French society that would plague and ultimately weaken French Third Republic in years before WW2.
