TSMC is not only essential for Taiwan's economy, it's also their insurance against a Chinese invasion. If we're moving to a world where both China and the USA make their own chips, that would make damage from an invasion irrelevant for the two main players. Which means that resisting this change is more important for Taiwan than any economic bullying.
