Hello Everyone,

What a week this has been! 44 Savers, 27 comments, 21 posts! You're doing great everyone! Are you taking part in no buy February? Read all about it below - you can join in any time during the month. We also have a fresh challenge for this week!

Exclusive SPI Sale

The exclusive SPI sale for Saturday Savers in March. There are 300 SPI put aside for Saturday Savers Club members to buy through the year. We are going to do it on a subscription basis so you can plan your purchases across the whole year. We're still finalising the details, but the minimum weekly subscription is likely to be 1.13 HIVE.

February No-Buy Month

This week's challenge

You have a budget. You plan. Then you see an advertisement for an item you think you can't live without or because an item is on sale. Marketers convince you that it's imperative you purchase it TODAY before the deadline or to take advantage of the free shipping.

Says @justclickindiva in her No-Buy Post this week.

We've all been there. What tips and ideas do you have for how to avoid being manipulated into spending money you didn't intend to? Leave a comment for a chance to win an HSBI sponsored by @shanibeer.

What's a No-Buy Month All About?

If you're new to the No-Buy idea, this is a great way to review your expenses and give a boost to your savings. You can make it as big or as small as you want. Maybe you want to pick a small goal, like taking packed lunches to work everyday if you normally eat out, and then putting aside the money you save. You could try it for a day, a week or the rest of February.

No-Buy is a little bit of a misnomer, Low-Buy might be better but it doesn't have quite the same dramatic effect! 😍 What No-Buy means is that you take more notice of what you are spending and look at how you can reduce it.

You can still buy essentials - food (😜), transport, replacements and repairs. You can also set a budget for treats or things that you know you want to buy like HIVE or LEO for power-ups.

It can be an opportunity to explore new things. For example, using your local library. Our libraries here have free wifi, spaces to work, huge electonic resources of free magazines and newspapers, audio and e-books. Maybe build in a trip to the library once a week as an alternative to going shopping.

How to do a No-Buy Month

Set a budget for the No-Buy period with rules about what you can and can't buy. This will be individual to each person - you might have birthdays or celebrations or events coming up that you need to build into your allowed expenses budget.

You might have some habits that you want to change - I like walking to my local shop, but you know, I may only need a loaf of bread but I will always come out with about £30 of shopping! When I started No-Buy months, I decided to tackle that habit!

Here's an example of a budget for February:

Allowed Expenses - what you can buy

  • Food - but aiming to finish up packets, tins and jars in the pantry, food in the freezer and from the garden.
  • Essential toiletries and housekeeping replacements.
  • Essential repairs or replacements.
  • Valentine's Day treat.
  • 1 coffee/meal with friends each week.
  • Postage and/or carriage.
  • Travel or fuel.

No-No Buy - definitely do not buy these!

  • No shop-bought non-essential treats.
  • No books, stationary, yarn, fabric or notions.
  • No "new" (ie not replacements) clothes.
  • No "new" (ie not replacements) furniture, household items, telecoms.
  • No seeds or plants or houseplants or cut flowers.

You can set yourself a goal of how much you'd like to save during the month - maybe 10% of household expenses.

And that's it - before you know it, it's 1 March and you've a nice little nest egg put aside (could be your SPI budget - just sayin' 😂).

If you'd like to join in, write a comment or link a post with your plans for No-Buy February! HSBI for all linked posts sponsored by @shanibeer (maximum one per week)!

Hi all sorry I missed the last couple of weeks real life has been hectic for me. Not too much new I have been buying Dbond have doubled my token holding on that one.

Been trying to plan my balcony garden with not much progress on that yet.

That is about it for me for the week.

Hope all are doing well till next week keep stacking.

Hi @ericburgoyne. I understand about real life. Got a few pressing to-do's that need attention. I still managed to grab some EDSD this week.

Hope you're able to get your balcony garden going soon. Take care.

Good to hear from you @ericburgoyne 😍
Hope all is well, even if life is busy!
I was looking at my garden this morning, I'm hoping to get out there this week.

Now it's a matter of money mini greenhouse first and the one we want is not cheap so it has to wait till the end of the month money to get it.

Sharon is in the hospital, that is why I am so busy. She is 1 /12 hours east of here so it takes hours every day driving back and forth. They might be able to move her closer to home on Monday, at least I hope they do.

That's a lot driving, I can see why you've been busy. Hopefully Sharon will be nearer home next week. Thank you for keeping in touch.

yes it is and yes I hope she is closer to home come Monday

Hello all Savers. Hope you had a good week both online and offline. I'm still on track with my savings. The weekly transfers are still low enough I can handle them with my posting rewards.

Here's how I ended Week 5:

Adding 84.529 to my HP total was a good rewards week. Also, I was able to add the recommended weekly HBD savings of 2.73 for Week 5. I didn't purchase any EDSD this week.

NO-BUY MONTH
Fortunately, I'm staying the course. As I scheduled for myself, we took advantage of our 1 dining out meal and enjoyed a scrumptious seafood dinner. My Cajun Shrimp Po-Boy was spicy and delicious. Only $20, so I'm on track. Already planning next week. Perhaps pasta.

Avoiding the pressure of buying.
When I'm out, I take note of items that interests me and their prices. I'm disciplined enough after all these years not to allow pressure from retailers but online and in-store. Remember, a comparable item will be available in the future. If not, then it isn't meant to be. I've discovered that prices sometimes actually drop after the initial hype.

Take care everyone and have a good rest of your weekend.

One of the things I really enjoy about setting a restricted budget, is that the treats like eating out, seem to become much more fun!

Good idea about taking a more planned approach to purchases.

Yes, being able to enjoy an item you have set aside for an occasional purchase or to-do is much more appreciated. I was looking forward to that weekly dinner and trying to decide what type of food to spend the money on. Now, it seems that I hate wasting money on fast foods.

I have a few desire-to-have items in online carts waiting for me to make a decision. But I'm in no hurry to buy. Usually I end up finding a comparable item a few months later.

Thanks for your visit. Take care.

My goals are on track with a bit of a boost to my HP above what I need for my year end goal and I added a bit extra to my HBD savings to make it an even number. I have dumped almost all my PIMP (except what is still unstaking) into the pool because I think I get more out of the pool rewards than from staked PIMP. Also stacked 16k sats.

All the best to everyone for the coming week !
Cheers @hoosie

78 HP is very respectable! 😍

Congrats!! to Winners!

No-Buy Month
My advice is something I do always; (tip) when looking to buy always window shop first. Don't be tempted by a sudden so-called sale. Stores often say something's on sale or clarence. But is it really a sale? Marking an item down $2 is not a sale or clarence, you can probably find the item elsewhere for $2 less anyway. Take the time to shop around. Also, something I do is (tip) take a picture of the item & price together to reference at a later time to get the best price.

Here's my weekly savings post with my No-Buy Update;
https://peakd.com/hive-167922/@successchar/saving-with-susie-saver-or-week-6-february-10th-or-a-little-extra-fiat-means-a-little-extra-savings-or-no-buy-month-update

how to avoid being manipulated into spending money you didn't intend to?

Make a list of the "extra" stuff you need and/or want. Another bookshelf, a pair of summer shoes, Seanan McGuire's latest book, dinner at a fancy restaurant... and don't buy anything else no matter how tempting an offer you get. Set aside/save up money for the things on the list ahead of time, and once you have enough, start looking for deals. Don't buy on credit, even if it sounds like you get the items cheaper that way. Interest is good when you get it, not when you pay it ;)

Hey, missed to update last two weeks about saving and progress overall.. going really busy these days with life.

I did skipped a week and now week 6 update is here.

Working on HP now since hive is cheap and market is looking strong.. will increase HBD savings a long the way!

Here's the post about it.

https://inleo.io/@idksamad78699/saturday-saving-chronicles-week-6-growing-hbd-savings-hp-and-lp-day-by-day

Good to see you, sometimes life gets busy 😍

Had a week where I took a few backward steps. Didn't hit my targets for the week on any savings goal. However, on the plus side, I am overall still ahead of targets for year to date thanks to getting ahead of them early on.

Also, my savings wallet went backwards, as I found myself in urgent need of some funds to cash out to fiat. My liquid crypto options are very limited, so I had to sell some EDS and SIM mainly which hurt my wallet.

Overall, my first real bad week this year, but the big picture goals are still ok.

Hope everyone had a good week.

JK

Sometimes it's like that, good that you were able to get ahead.

That happens to all of us sometimes, I hope everything is OK!

Great! thank you very much for including me in the report! I will continue to be constant and growing in this new path I am taking. Best regards to all and have a great week!

Thanks for the update on the SPI sale. A subscription basis sounds like a good idea. Hope to participate.

Unless it's food, I'm most likely not buying even when the offer is tempting.😅 I don't know but the urge to spend on things may have left me and was passed on to my husband, haha. He's more shopaholic than I am, lol! Just thinking about where to put and organize things in the house makes me say NO to buying stuff.😊

Anyhow, it's quite late but here is my update for Week 5 & 6.

Always enjoy your posts, they make me smile 😍

Incredible, there are more and more of us. Congratulations to all.

My 89th Sunday Weekly Hive Goals and Progress Update: An Unusually Quiet Week with Solid Yet Slower Growth
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆

Heya savers!

Well, last week definitely seemed a bit quieter on the Blockchain, and along with it my growth was a bit slower too, though I still had some good gains. This was the first time in a good while that I only reached one of my three weekly goals. All good, I just adapt and keep flowing. I have fewer than 30 HP needed to reach 6,300 HP, which I should surpass early next week.

May thie rest of this week be a productice and lucrative one for us all! Forward, onward, and upward, together! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

Thank you so much☺️

As soon as I have money from somewhere, I will definitely start shopping.
