"Permanently Suspended" on Xitter

"After careful review by Grok..."

So I appealed this "permanent read-only mode" and my account was semi-restored shortly after, but the feed is still limited to show zero posts. And without the feed the platform is worthless except for DMs. I find myself in a weird X echo chamber. Like a prison made of glass where people can see what I write but I can't see what they write on the timeline. AKA completely worthless UX even after the unban, so far.

The interesting thing here was that during my suspension I couldn't do anything whatsoever but Grok was still turned on. Which was interesting. So I talked to Grok for a second (who claims to not have access to Twitter API). That' was interesting... but basically just told me to appeal, which I already had.

So what was the reason for suspension?

They did not tell me, which made appealing extra weird because it's like... what am I trying to appeal you didn't even tell me. How is this policy supposed to correct behavior again?

The most obnoxious thing about it is it specifically tells you you're in read-only mode. Okay cool, that's fine I'll just read other people's stuff without comments. Nope: feed banned fuck your mother. Why'd we do it? Because fuck you that's why! lol. Would you like to appeal? Granted, but we won't tell you why we did that either and your feed is still broken! Ha. What a joke policy.

It's always an interesting wakeup call and good reminder as to why we are all here trying to build WEB3. No matter how captivating someone is they still have to pay for premium service to get attention these days. "Freedom of speech not freedom of reach!" Hm yeah no that's just one entity picking and choosing who gets heard and who doesn't. Problem... not solved. Same problem: different rent-seeking overlord.

Luckily my Twitter account is near meaningless to me and I waste a lot of time there anyway. It is nice to have a fresh source for current events but it's not like I was putting any actual effort into cultivating a following there. A moment like this stings a lot less for me personally when compared to the average person, and it's still pretty damn annoying; just not devastating like it can be for those who put more stock into centralized agents.

If my account's feed isn't corrected in a few weeks I may have to create a ghost profile and refollow a bunch of people so I can keep my crypto news feed open even if something like this happens again. The audacity these guys have to tell me I'm "not allowed" to do this on the suspension page when they have absolutely no power to stop me. Such hubris. The only question is how hard I have to juke to get past that toothless defense. WEB2 is an unfunny joke.

Here's the new 28 year-old CEO of Enron being pied in the face like Bill Gates a generation ago.

Hits a bit different this time eh?
Imagine fearing for your life while getting a pied in the face.
Not cool, grandma!
But also funny.
Clown World approves.

I don't think I've ever heard prisoners yell at the press from inside a prison...

Yes this is a world-first for me.

Analysis

The WEB2 control grid gives the user a complete delusional fantasy of control and ownership because most do not have to deal with these types of arbitrary punitive actions that are dished out with zero explanation or ability to appeal to a 3rd-party arbiter. Crypto isn't yet big enough to show Average Joe the way, but you never know maybe we get there this cycle or the next. Until then we keep grinding WEB3 and dangle the bait of freedom in front of the common man. You can lead a horse to water... but you can't force it to cross the bridge.

Update: my feed works.

I think I'll take a break from Xitter for a while.

it is funny that they actually say this, use it in court, and everyone is like it is fine :)

It is a mockery of contract law. My guts churn at the thought of how this will evolve going forward, especially if X becomes a source of commercial activity. It won't be your money you'll be spending, but X's money, so they can restrict your spending of it however they want, making a backdoor CBDC. And because of that people will be grateful for the grant of their own funds to them by X and their overlords. It's deeply chilling.

Edit: it actually contradicts it's claim of ownership of the accounts, calling them 'their accounts'. I can't believe courts are corrupt enough to let this shit slide.

You also can’t put a horse’s swim trunks on for him.

Sorry for the bullshit trouble you’re having there in the WEB2 world. I had a similar experience on Reddit during the GME thing, it was embarrassing for me to realize how much I cared. Getting on a hardcore downvote trail here can hurt almost as much, but it’s certainly not as much of an impact as deplatforming or losing feed.

Well said man, hope you get it all worked out but either way it seems like you’ve got the right temperament to handle the situation.

I was also recently banned from Twit-land, for joking about a careless gun owner accidentally shooting themselves. I can have my account back if I remove the post, but I'm happier without it.

OMG that 12 minutes of News nation is 12 minutes I'll never get back. wow. Talk about clown world. "Stay tuned, more on the big show coming soon!"

Interesting that they do not have to give you a reason for suspension. Do subscribers sign something that agrees to that?

I should have picked a shorter clip I didn't even watch the full 12 minutes :D

Come on man, what are you doing posting on a free account, and talking about things that go against the platforms best financial interest?! You heathen! Off to the gallows traitor!

Web2's centralized policies can indeed be frustrating for users. Situations like this really highlight the growing importance of Web3. Thanks for sharing this insightful post!

That was hilarious when Bill got pied back in the day. Sorry to hear about the account ban. We sure take for granted that we own our own keys here on Hive.

This whole Luigi thing seems like another distraction and totally bizarre. Whether this kid is part of the act or not is not so clear right now. Just another day in clown world I guess.

But it's freedom of speech lol

This is remarkable in that your Twitter posts are not exceptionally spicey or offensive. Your theme reads as snarky and witty observations about crypto and some limitted forays into current events.

It is a good reminder that Twitter, or X is not a particularly censorship resistant platform.

Users on traditional social media platforms are digital neo-serfs, creating content and value for the landlords but rarely recieving direct value in exchange.

Time to set up your bluewave account or whatever it is called.

I think you can still get banned on Bluesky, but I think on Mastodon you've got way more control... I just haven't actually figured any of that out yet.

Silver lining: more time freed up to spend in web3!

Unfortunately a lot of crypto news still happens on X though, which makes having an account there useful. Will need it until everyone makes the transition to web3.

I honestly feel bad for anyone that thought Twitter was going to embrace Freedom of Speech - it's way worse than it ever was... at least in the past you could appeal and now there's often just no recourse at all. Unfortunately there's still some peeps I like to follow who haven't moved to any other platforms so I'm stuck with it until they do. Good luck getting through this obstacle course.

I’ve never gotten good reach, or had a positive experience/impact using X. Even when I paid for premium I got almost no engagement. Only thing good is spaces, because at least then it’s a person choosing who can talk, not AI and bs algorithms. Got on some pretty big spaces at one point, and was even invited to Snoop Dog’s platform that failed to take off.

Twitter sucks! I left that place shortly after Elon took over as I watched it go from bad to worse. I took a social media break, then recently, the last month or so, I discovered Bluesky.

The place leans a little left, but the conversations are civilized, and the vibe good. Also a great place to promote Hive content. If you decide to check it out, I'm The Dude Travels. I would have posted a link but didn't want to spam your post.

X = as in x girlfriend. ----- Good riddance!

Wow. This happened on X.
Amazing.
I am disappointed.
I believed Elon would make X better then this, but maybe it was all a mistake, who knows, glad your back and glad you are not relying on Your X monetization to pay the bills.
Are you ready for your first winter in Penn?

WTF! That's soooo messed up!!!
