I had a very pleasant childhood all things considering. Two parents who cared for their children and did everything they could to ensure that we can stand on our own feet today. I certainly wasn't pampered, or spoiled, but at no point in time did I ever feel like the love was lacking.
Sometimes, I took for granted the love, devotion and attention provided by my parents at the time. Sure, there were some days that were special than others, such as birthdays, but they certainly did their best in ensuring that I felt loved and appreciated at any given time.
The older you get and interact with the real World, the more you really appreciate this privilege. It's a much colder World than anyone expects and a heads up is really important to survive in it. There is no unconditional love waiting from random people who come into your life, and even some of those who profess love do so with various hidden intentions.
I felt special during my childhood, like I could accomplish anything I wanted because my parents had my back. I don't know if I still do though. Life can be tough. One thing I've realised though is that I could always make special someone else feel special by my actions. We all need those little doses of unmerited and unexpected attention sometimes.
