Human loyalties exist today and they are to be valued. But unfortunately, they are rare. Because like you said below..
especially if the price of that betrayal seems financially life-changing.
Especially in economies like ours where the general structure put in place by supposed leaders are designed to demoralize, downgrade and ultimately destroy the populace. In this kind of environment unlike elsewhere, it is easy to buy people over.
This afternoon as I was running around for cash, I saw a political campaign trail with hundreds of youths that put on the appearance of happiness and singing. In actuality, deep down, they probably are not happy. What happened? They were bought over.
Thats the point. We want to cherish loyal people because they are increasingly reducing in numbers.

Whenever there's something at stake ass licking and worshipping becomes a thing. The content was based on true experience. I had people I considered friends, but they won't see the toxicity I see because of the Incentivization they stand to gain where I see this toxicity, I'm not surprised, but I'm one who do not ask for accountability, I just dissapear, you can't change someone who is incentivized to keep worshipping toxicity and corruption.
Thats the point made earlier which is really a sad one. People are ready to trade loyalty for material gains. Which like I said earlier, is making finding loyal friends difficult.
No need to bother oneself trying to change someone or a condition that is almost impossible to change. Once the incentive is there, the opinions will continue to be divergent. So to let them go and move always seem productive.

It's not surprising to me, and there's no way you can't help but feel very dissapointed. These things.. these tendencies are inside of us. Our nature by default can surprise us sometimes, but the choice to evolve is what some of us mostly choose. Hmmm. I believe trying to do better by the day is the goal for me, as I won't really say I'm immune.
Sure. Its a competition within. A healthy one, to try to be a better version of oneself each day. That way, we could overcome some natural human tendencies
