My team just started their preseason with a win over BP on saturday. 3-0 and our young talent Kusi-Asare scored a goal!
That would have made your day. What league is that? Its amazing when young players score on their debut
Its the domestic league of Sweden called Allsvenskan. My team is AIK 🖤💛
We have a great history of getting young talents from Africa, or can even narrow it down to Sierra Leone, to become great players. Mohammed Bangura was the best 🖤💛
Swedish league is one of the top in Europe. I think I have heard about AIK. I love teams that develop and nurture talent. What is the position of AIK in the league table now?
Our league hasn't started yet. We start in March/April and goes on until October/November.
But last season was rough for us. Hope we can grow and become better in 2024!
Oh, I see. Your calendar does not match with Europe's top leagues. So how is your team doing with player transfers. Which areas of the team need strengthening?
This is one of the great ideas on Leo.
Football and threadcasts are an easy way to get some engagement going, page views up, and overall activity.
We are all looking to feed the Ad Revenue trough.
Sure, we need the views, the engagement and the buzz here. Users need to understand how much we badly need traffics here to grow the revenue. Its a win-win for all parties.
Yes. It is why people need to use what is being built on here. That is the idea behind Music on Leo.
Fantastic job, well-done @fokusnow, the engagement this has brought is good and it's making us focus on what is really important.
Agreed. A great way to do it. We need more activity in this area.
There were lots to talk about starting from the round of 16 Afcon games over the weekend. Look at the following result and tell me what you think about them:
Nigeria 2 - 0 Cameroon
Did you see this result coming? Did you watch the game? Whats your reaction?
I don't really know why but I have always believed in the Nigerian team to win all the times, even when they lost I keep believing they will soon win again, I have confidence in them
The Camerounian team was fortunate to qualify for this round, their showing at this tournament has not been impressive. When African team plays with Nigeria, they have extra motivation and didn't expect the game to be won in 90 minutes.
Yes, they often see the super Eagles as a formidable opponent and put up a good fight. But this time around, it did not work out that way.
At the beginning of the match, I noticed that the Lions were no match for the Eagles. They were playing sluggishly.
In another #afcon game, 7 time champions Egypt were eliminated by 68th ranked Dr Congo. Another huge upset. Your takes
In my wildest dreams, I will no believe that the almighty Pharaohs of Egypt will be eliminated by Leopards of Congo. They held the Egyptians till the extra time and the game went into penalties.
Penalties can be anyone's game but considering the exploits of the Egyptian goalkeeper at the last AFCON,one would think that if the game goes into penalties, Egypt will carry the day.
The highlights of this year's AFCON are the upsets .I love the fact that African football has evolved to the level where no country can be regarded as an under
Yes, that's the essence of concentration and hard work.
No team is an underdog anymore in African football.
Its quite obvious at this moment. And it is possible we will see entirely new faces in the semis and final
I wish a new team will lift the trophy this time. The next AFCON will be explosive if that happens because the big names will come with a lot of seriousness.
Hahahaha, that is true. They need to sit up. They need to live up to their name. Once Nigeria gets into the semis, they would have done well.
I hope we don't claim our usual possession this time: BRONZE
Hahhaahhaha. I am really confident in this team with what I have seen so far. Did you forget that this is the first time we did not do maths and calculations or depend on other team results to qualify from the group?
Yes the competition becomes boring when it is very predictable. But honestly, I think the big boys like Ghana and Egypt have not grown in the past years
Yes, I think Egypt felt that the performance of their key players at their clubs will translate to success at the AFCON.If their football has developed, they would have had good replacements for them when the chips are down.
They also forgot that some of these players are already aging like Salah. So you are right, they should develop newer talent to replace them.
How is Afcon going?
This is the only AFCON with the biggest surprises. Imagine that some of the big names like Ghana did not make it out of the group stage. And by this round of 16, Egypt 7 time champions, were knocked out by DR Congo
Crazy, Ghana should be able to produce a really strong team for this tournament!
They failed to do so. They couldn't even make it out of the group
That has to be classified as a failure for them.
Indeed it is! I hope they do well next time!
@philings Do you see the Super Eagles lifting the afcon this year? Or which team will you predict to win it?
I predict Super Eagles oooo, they have done wonderfully well, they will win
Welcome to the threadcast ma'am!!! I am happy you are here. I love the super Eagles defence. Its very strong. Did you watch the last game?
Thank you, my phone is getting network better now than yesterday, I watched it half way so I didn't know how it ended.
Thats interesting!!!! I never knew before that you are this interested in football
I follow my husband to watch so I'm catching what's happening small, small.
Waooh, thats good. And you enjoy it right?
I don't see the Super Eagles winning the tournament but if they do it will be a surprise because the technical crew lacks depth.
They have one of the best defence, which is why I am giving them a huge chance. And if Osimhen did not get injured, they have a striker that bullies defenders into making mistakes.
Yes,Osumhen's presence is a plus for Nigeria. It distracts the defense of the opponents as the focus is much on him.
Yes, that is a big value that big players can bring. Even Messi and Ronaldo do play those roles in games. When 2 players or more are assigned to mark them, it creates space for others in the team to score
@philings @uzoma24. There was the English FA cup games last weekend too. Man Utd 4 - 2 NewPort. Did you see the game?
I couldn't watch the game.Man.United has not been impressive since Ferguson left.I don't see them winning any trophy this season.
Me too. I watched the game. Even against this lowly side, they dropped a 2 goal lead twice. Its not a proper team since Ferguson left
Some players in the afcon teams have failed to deliver. Onana, the goalkeeper of Cameroon was dropped due to performance issues. Salah of Egypt was injured and out before his team was kicked out. Where did it go wrong @philings
These are God's strategy to give the cup to the team he had assigned Ito win it, I think
When two teams pray before a match, who does God listen to? Since they are all Christians and his children. I mostly like to remove the idea of God in sports
You know it's turn by turn, God rotates the cup so whoever wins at that point it's their turn, I think
Anyway, I just think the better thing wins. If its just down to turns, then no need of preparing or having good players. But thanks for expressing your own view. You are entitled to it
Ok
The big names came into the tournament with lots of confidence forgetting the fact that all teams came to win.The technical errors made by some of the coaches contributed too.Osimhen is yet to proof why he was voted Africa's best.
Sure, big name alone dont win matches. These smaller teams are ready to beat the big boys anytime. Osimhen is not scoring goals yet because I think the quality of service from the midfield is not that great. But then, I cant question his workrate. The way he bullies defenders have resulted in goals from other members of the team - at least I saw an own goal and another goal from his pursuing a lost ball
If injury doesn't stop him,he may help the team get past the semi final
Sure, he needs to stay fit. I really love his work rate. Defenders dont get any breathing space from him
Most players were not in form.Sallah's injury and absence may have contributed to their loss yesterday.Instead of the coach to field Omar Marmouch early in the game since Sallah is absent,he brought him in at the middle of the second half.
Yes the injury was a blow, although Egypt never convinced from day 1. I hope they will do well in future competitions. They never won even a single match. 3 draws and 1 defeat for a 7-time champion is appalling
There needs to be an overhaul of the team so that fresh legs can come in
Thats my point. These older players wont go far. I dont see Liverpool giving Salah an extended contract when the current one expires.
Yes, and since Klopp is leaving Liverpool he too may start thinking of moving to other leagues or heading to make more money in Saudi Arabia
Its better he go and make money in Saudi league. He is aging. Thats the best place to retire
Cote d'Ivoire surprisingly qualified for the round of 16.But some feel that they qualified through the back door.Whatever the case,I feel that they have gotten to Senegal bus stop and would exit the tournament in their next match.
Life is about surprises, don't relax in your comfort or winning zone earlier, anything can happen, so....
This Ivorian surprise even surprised the country's football fans.
That's the game, full of surprises ☺️
Oh, they were fixed with Senegal? That would be the biggest opponent they will face. I hope they dont embarrass them
They have just arrived at Senegal bus stop
@anderssinho If you are to support a team in this Afcon competition, which team will you support?
Not really, just think its cool that a small nation like Kap Verde can compete against the big guys from yhe continent :)
Yes, giving these minnows the opportunity to stay competitive is really interesting. I love that as many small teams beat the big boys.
Do you watch any foreign leagues like the EPL? @anderssinho
sometimes, but actually watch mostly my domestic league. EPL has lost its charm inmho with all the money.
Oh ok. Thats great. Grassroot football is good with local fans too. The EPL is now a money league. We watch it anyway.
@philings, what do you think about female referees in the afcon. I saw one officiating one of the games.
These ladies are doing very well, to me this is practically men's jobs but here the ladies are waking up very early to practice, organize the players and go out actually to play, men... Ladies are trying , kudos to them 🤠!!
Yes, its great to see women in the game. But am talking about the referees. This is probably the first afcon with a female referee officiating mens games.
That means she has been proven and tested to be equal to the task, it a huge honour to my gender 😂
Yes it is!!!! I really hope more women will step up and get involved in the game
This new generation is out to play, it's ok.
It is a good development, male referees officiate female matches so it this be reciprocated. The Moroccan female referee performed better than some male referees.I asked a friend a question: why didn't CAF invite Nigerian referees?
I really like seeing women referees in games. They're doing a great job, and I hope we see even more of them in the future. It's awesome for the sport.
Yes, women in football games officiating is a great thing. Sometimes I wonder what your favorite sport is? Definitely not football, mba nu
I kinda have a thing for football, but it's certainly not my favorite sport. Table tennis is my favorite sport at the moment thanks to high school.
Do you think the general quality of pitches and play in the afcon needs to be raised? @philings
The performance of the underrated teams speaks to the improvement of the game on the continent. For quality,I would say that African football is markedly different from European football. It is more of physical play and a show of stamina.
Yes the smaller teams raised their standard. I agree also that the African game is more physical than technical. And the pitches? I cant compare them with those in Europe because we all know how things are run here.
Lol, you don't compare ooo,we can only contrast because they can't come close. But if you compare the pitches with other African pitches, the Ivorians can pass
Yes, its not good to compare. The gap is wide. The Ivorian pitch is great.
To me the pitches are good but the needs to be a lot of improvement on the technicalities of most of the teams. If this teams were to feature at a world cup, physical football will not take them far.
Yes, the are mostly technically deficient. Intelligence is needed to win global games like a world cup. I think there should be a way to high coaches that are good technically for the national teams.
That is if the different African FA's will allow reasoning to prevail over corruption, nepotism and tribalism .
That is it. They want to force players on coaches and many other things that have stopped the growth of African football
Only serious countries do well in Africa but the moment that stops, they flop.
That is it. We hope things improve with time
Over last weekend, this is the game that had all my interest. And I was satisfied with the eventual outcome.
Me too. Even though Osimhen is not scoring much, the way he harrasses defenders is a thing of Joy. He bullies them.
Osimhen a very important player in that team. Looking at that assist he provided, you would see how he wrestled the ball out of the defender before providing that all important assist.
Thats my point. Even the own goal in one of the group games was the way he pressured the defender
Whether he scores or not, his workrate is amazing so far
So you guys do watch Football.
I feel somehow cause I don’t watch football even tho i like it.
Getting lots of pageviews! 68 on my phone currently!
Yes, thats really important. I actually have a group and we organize threadcasts when at least 3 or more persons would participate. Since you have interest in football, I will tag you anytime we put up one like this.
Its okay, just tag me and have a something to add Ill join in
Ok nice.
There are now 80 page views. Great job on this one.
It will get better in few weeks.. Am already reaching out to fan groups and soon, they will.be onboarded. I want to have 3k pageview threadcasts here
That is awesome. We will look forward to it. I love how you are taking up ownership of this and looking to build it up. That is what business people and entrepreneurs do.
Your results will be captured by the platform and spread throughout enriching all who are involved. The same goes for the projects I am working upon. This is how we get the network effects going.
Sure. Each person works on a specific aspect of the ecosystem and we are able to grow it all together. The capabilities here are amazing, we just need to do what we are supposed to do and everyone wins. I believe that platforms like X started from somewhere and they are amazing today.
