I assume its a laptop right? Then if its high voltage, what should damage is the adapter. If its a desktop PC, then the power pack will damage.

Yes, it's a laptop. There is this strange burnt smell coming from the part where the battery stays.
I hope the battery was not affected. But you can test things one by one. Remove the battery and plug the adapter directly to power if the current is fine now. If you on the system and it comes up, then the adapter is still fine.
