Pros and cons of buying Splinterlands DEC

We take a look at the pros and cons of buying Splinterlands DEC for both active players and long term investors.

When it comes to whether you should buy Splinterlands DEC, there are a number of pros and cons to first consider.

In this section of our Splinterlands DEC guide, we go over the pros and cons before helping you to make a final informed call on buying DEC yourself.

There are numerous pros and cons of buying Splinterlands DEC that you must consider.

Pros of buying Splinterlands DEC

  • Needed to play Splinterlands:
As the in-game currency of the Splinterlands game itself, it is an integral part of actually playing the game.

You can use DEC to buy cards, potions, dice packs which via effective gameplay, can be compounded into more DEC.

If you’re an active Splinterlands player, then you need to buy some DEC.

  • Ability to earn SPS airdrop points:
The more DEC you have on hand, the more SPS airdrop points you will earn each day.

This works for both active Splinterlands players as well as passive DEC investors because whether your DEC is within your account or in the DEC-bUSD LP on Cub Finance, you’re earning SPS points.

  • Price could go up:
With so much hype around Splinterlands and play to earn games in general, demand for DEC doesn’t look like receding anytime soon.

As long as the game continues to grow and attract new accounts at anything close to the current rate, then the price of DEC is likely to continue appreciating.

Cons of buying Splinterlands DEC

  • Price could go down:
While we said that price potentially going up is a pro of buying Splinterlands DEC, we’ve also included the opposite effect right here in the cons section.

As a soft pegged token of 1000 DEC to $1, price could just as easily return to its peg and go down from where we are now.

It’s all about weighing up the potential risk to reward.

  • Possibly better returns elsewhere:
If you’re purely looking to buy DEC as an investor rather than a player of the game, then there may be better returns elsewhere.

With just 15% on offer in the DEC-bUSD LP on Cub Finance, that is certainly on the small end of the DeFi scale.

But we say may be because DEC may be the easiest way to increase your SPS airdrop, but we don’t actually know how big that token could be at the end.

It could be meh or it could be really big.

Another risk to reward that you need to weigh up before buying Splinterlands DEC.

Do the pros outweigh the cons of buying Splinterlands DEC?

This is a question that only you yourself can answer.

There are just too many unknowns and variables around the future success of the Splinterlands game and the ultimate value of the SPS airdrop.

If the parabolic growth that we’ve seen Splinterlands generate continues, then the price of DEC could just continue to moon.

But if the play to earn craze starts to waiver, then a drop in demand for DEC could just as easily see its price fall back to the peg.

At this stage, we just don’t know.

What you can do however, is use the information found within this guide to Splinterlands DEC to make an informed decision before placing your bets accordingly.

Best of probabilities to you.

If you’re an active Splinterlands player, then you need to buy some DEC.

Nope, never bought dec, just won it all from playing and renting out cards :-)

At this point, as I do want to get enough SPS, I also prefer to win my dec instead of buying. Although it did cross my mind.

You're right and I should probably reword that section of the blog.

You don't need DEC to play the game, but it's an integral part of playing the game.

As for stacking SPS, I have a question for you.

The tradeoff between earning SPS airdrop points from your DEC holdings and straight-up cashing your DEC in for SPS immediately, is intriguing.

So even though you want SPS, you're going down the path of holding DEC and using it to earn airdrop points.

Rather than just dumping your DEC to directly invest in the SPS token itself immediately?

Yeah it's an integral part of the game for sure, the main in-game currency I'd say.

Interesting thought about the buying SPS with dec. Let's take a quick look at that:

1000 dec is (time of writing): $7.46

That would buy you 17.86 SPS

According to SPS calculator holding 1000 dec would bring an estimate of 54 sps by the end of the airdrop and I'd still have my initial dec..

Of course I could stake the sps sooner if I buy, and it would help if I want to buy packs. But according to peakmonsters the apr is much higher for the airdrop (315.86 % DEC APR from SPS airdrop) compared to staking SPS (179.88 % Staking APR).

That's why I prefer holding the dec (most of it in LP on cub finance now to earn cub too) and stake the airdrop daily to build the SPS stack and still have the dec at the end of the ride.

This is extremely helpful.

Thanks for sharing.

You're welcome, keep in mind these numbers are subject to daily fluctuation depending on the price of dec and sps. But it gives a rough estimation what can be expected.

From what I've seen both numbers have dropped quite some compared to the start of the airdrop, time will tell how it's going to develop.

There are a lot of factors at the moment. It will be interesting to see how the next release of Packs affects DEC. Usually it is a great sink for DEC, but not sure how the team creates income if they burn all that DEC.

The team takes fees from every market purchase or rental service rendered. This is why I think a high price of DEC should be incentivized, because these fees help the team generate a ton of profit. Just my opinion

This.

Not to mention the fact that each new player onboarded has to pay the tenner in order to start playing ranked battles.

The team is doing just fine haha.

I would note that you don't need DEC to play the game. It is nice to have incase you want to get more cards. At least from my point of view, if you already own cards, the DEC are just your earnings from the game.

Ah yep, I should probably reword that section slightly.

You don't need DEC to play the game, but it's an integral part of playing the game.

I am going to buy some more dec to play and stake in several accounts !

What is your thinking behind spreading your DEC and NFT assets across multiple accounts rather than just making one single GUN account?

Has anyone done a comparison of which strategy earns the most DEC?

Ah must admit I FOMOed into it a little bit hehehe

This guide comes in a great time because now I can lear more about Splinterlands and actually make informed decisions rather than giving in to FOMO alone

While it seems somewhat like FOMO right now, Splinterlands still has so much potential for growth.

The current blockchain gaming market is just a fraction of the total gaming market.

And Splinterlands isn't even the biggest blockchain game!

Sooooo much potential to keep growing from here.

Yes it is very true that the price could go down, but that's the market, risk everywhere and there are only two options, take it or leave it.

I think at this point splinterlands can multiply X10 what it currently does, as it is a game in constant growth, plus the DEC managed to reach $0.01 so there is a chance that it will go up even more.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I totally agree with you that the price of DEC could still explode higher.

As I said in a comment above, Splinterlands as a game still has so much potential for new user growth.

Sooooo much potential to keep growing from here.

Thanks for stopping by :)

Once fully completed, our Splinterlands DEC guide will be the perfect starting point for investors.

Gaming is equivalent to investing now. An added layer of thrill. ✌

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

Having some DEC right now can be a great help when Chaos Legion get released. Currently there are no NFTs you can directly buy from @splinterlands. Purchases for new Card Packs with potential airdrops in future will create a significant demand. Whether it would be enough to pump the price is uncertain.

Posted Using LeoFinance Beta

I'm really looking forward to seeing how the team handle new releases and what that does to the DEC market.

There are so many different opinions floating around.

But hey, that's what makes a market after all! ;)
