So, I recently made the switch to Brave.

At first I was super excited about the fact I could earn BAT.

But after delving a bit deeper into what's really happening, I can’t help but shake my head.

2/🧵.

The problem with that is the damn Uphold wallet. So inconvenient.

Inconvenient is one thing.

But using a browser for privacy and then doing KYC to receive rewards is a whole other kettle of fish!

Very true, that's more than inconvenient. Still, it could be fixed if they'd get rid of Uphold and go decentralized.

If you can't beat them, join them. Isn't that how it goes? Money is still the driving force behind these tech companies. That's why #hive is so great. It's not a company....

Are you earning Brave Rewards?

Jump into the replies and let me know your take on using a privacy focused browser.

But still KYCing in order to be paid peanuts for viewing ads.

10/🧵.

You can simply use those rewards and send the tip to the site you want to. I used to tip the Guardian.
Currently, since they have changed I hardly get any BAT

But if you're just using them to tip broke newspapers, why even bother with ads on a so called privacy focused browser?

Great, right?

Well, so I thought until I dug a bit deeper.

6/🧵.

The Brave Browser itself is excellent.

But in my opinion, the Brave Rewards program is a total contradiction.

9/🧵.

Thus defeating the entire purpose of using the privacy focused Brave browser itself in the first place!

Sigh.

8/🧵.

It turns out the only way to withdraw your BAT tokens…

…yes, the pre-mined shitcoin that Brave Software Inc has full control of distribution depending on the ad revenue they bring in for themselves…

Is via a KYC only account.

7/🧵.

Brave Rewards incentivises users to view what the company calls privacy-respecting ads.

Matching occurs only on your device and no personal data is sent to Brave's servers.

And for doing so, you’re paid BAT token as a reward.

5/🧵.

But its rewards program is a total contradiction and quite frankly, a joke.

4/🧵.

Brave markets itself as a privacy-focused alternative to Google Chrome.

Ad blockers, no data mining etc.

All fantastic features that roped me in.
