My Goal
It is always a good idea to set yourself goals. That is what I like about the Saturday Savers initiative.
I've created a few Saturday Savers blogs in the past which 'forced' me to keep a better eye on my goals; if I was on the right track and what I could do to bring me back on track when I didn't.
Somehow I stopped making these blogs along the way and my goals weren't as SMART as they used to be.
I did recently committed myself to become an orca. This goal isn't SMART by the way because I didn't make it Timebound. I just want it to happen as soon as possible 😀
Change of tactics
To becoming an orca you need to have a lot of staked Hive. At the moment the first Hiver with an orca status has 59652 Hive Power. So initially I started to power up all my Hive.
I also converted my HBD to Hive back in September when the price of Hive was low.
At the end of November I had nearly 32,000 HP. Still a long way to go, but already quite a nice stake. It was nice to see my curation rewards grow along with my stake.
But then the price of Hive went up. First above $0.30, then above $0.40 and even above $0.50.
This was two and even more than three times the price I bought my Hive for in September.
This made me rethink my tactics. I could become an orca faster when I take some profit by returning some Hive to HBD and waiting for the price of Hive to come down again. In the meantime my curation rewards would go down, but this would be compensated by the 15% interest on HBD in my savings account.
And another advantage of this tactic was that I have spread my 'risks' over two different tokens.
I have some liquid Hive ready to profit for the Hive pumps and I can liquify my HBD in three days when the price drops over time.
By responding to market prices I can take more profits which (hopefully) will shorten the time for me to become an orca.
How do I keep track?
As you have read above I want to divide the value of my Hive account over the two tokens; Hive and HBD. But when I move my funds between Hive and HBD it means that when I set goals to reach a certain amount of Hive and HBD when one goes up, the other goes down.
When I buy Hive with HBD I get closer to my Hive goal, but I get further away from my HBD goal.
And when I buy HBD with Hive it's the other way around.
I had been playing around in my head with this issue and came up with the following idea; a virtual HP stake! A virtual HP stake? I'll explain it....
Every couple of days I collect information about my Hive and HBD from my wallet. I collect all information; liquid, staked, claimable from both Hive and HBD in an Google Sheet.
I also add the current price of Hive. To calculate virtual Hive I divide my HBD stake by the price of Hive. That results in the amount of Hive I could buy at that moment. I know, this isn't exact science. I would need to make a trade, there needs to be liquidity, but it gives a bit of insights.
This way, when I power down my Hive to buy HBD, I would get less HP, but my Virtual HP will stay the same. I hope I didn't lose you here 😂
I'll clarify with some examples below.
This is my amount of Staked Hive over the month of January. You can see I've been powering down. I've converted this to liquid Hive to have it available for when the price increases again.
The next graph shows that my total amount of Hive decreased as well. This is because I bought HBD with Hive when the price was above $0.50. After the sell you see I accumulate more Hive with blogging and curation.
So my Hive stake shrunk, but my HBD on the other hand grew as you can see in the following graph.
When we take a look at the total account of my account we can see it has been going up and down in the past weeks. But as you can see in the graph below that it is caused by the price fluctuation of Hive. The graph shows quite some volatility.
The total value doesn't really matter to me since I just want to grow my Hive stake and believe Hive will become more valuable.
By also holding a certain amount of HBD the change in price of Hive will have less effect on my account value. Ideally I would have 50% value in Hive and 50% in HBD.
I'm waiting for the price to go above $0.50 again before I will convert some more Hive to HBD.
The last graph shows the virtual Hive. As I mentioned before this is the sum of all my Hive (staked and liquid) and also all the Hive I would be able to buy with my HBD on that date at the Hive price of that same date.
You see this graph is also influenced by the price of hive.
It shows me that if I would convert all my Hive into HBD yesterday, I would probably have around 34500 Hive, but due to the increased price today I can only convert my HBD into 33,000 Hive today.
As I mentioned before, it is not exact science since it also depends on the available orders in the market, but it does show me how far I virtually am on my way to become an orca.
Saturday Savers Goals
It was a bit difficult, but I have come up with three goals that I want to achieve before the end of 2025 (and I will be working towards).
- 35,000 Hive (a 23,29% growth)
- 4000 HBD (a 99,60% growth)
- 40,000 Virtual Hive (a 18,38% growth)
As you can see I want to grow my HBD a bit more, but that is because I want a bit more balance between my Hive and HBD stake (as I explained earlier in this blog).
And how is my progress with these goals? As you can see in the table below I have less Hive than I had on the 1st of January 2025. That results in a negative percentage. On the other hand my HBD goal is already 45% completed because of the HBD I bought with Hive.
The virtual Hive (that I've explained earlier in this blog) is a combination of Hive and HBD, which is a nice indicator of my total stake. This is at almost 15% in almost one month.
Token | Value 1-1-2025 | Current Value | Target Value | % of Goal |
---|---|---|---|---|
Hive | 28,388.609 | 27,229.491 | 35,000 | -17.50 |
HBD | 2003,971 | 2,912.621 | 4,000 | 45.60% |
Virtual Hive | 33,790.1 | 33,272.3 | 40,000 | -8,34% |
I hope you liked this information. I'll try to post updates on the progress of my goals frequently.

Yeah, will follow that way to be on Orca level sooner or later
Great strategy. Maybe I should follow it and focus on the two main tokens: HIVE and HBD.
