In this week’s challenge we are all about Battling. This is why we will go over one of my recently fought battles that we were able to win. With this being said, if you are new to Splinterlands or looking forward to join, don’t hesitate to do so! We are discussing new topics every week and are looking forward to every new face in the game. In this article, we will discuss the given ruleset in the battle, how we are going to tackle this specific battle and in the end look how it will turn out for us. Battle Ruleset
With that out of the way, lets get started! First things first, we need to talk about the ruleset in the upcoming battle. Here we are looking at rise of the commons as well as equal opportunity. This means that all of our Melee attackers will receive the Opportunity Ability and furthermore that we are not allowed to use any monsters with higher rarity than rare. This makes it very interesting since the biggest battle defining cards are either epic or legendary.
Not only that but we also get 50 mana to spend on our units which would give us plenty of options if we would have all cards available but with only Commons and rares we are kind of restricted in this regard. Nevertheless, we will be able to build a great team around a Life, Earth or dragon Summoner which we will discuss in the next section.
Strategy & Units
Lets start of with our team structure. I like to have a Taunt card on the team since it helps us to re-direct any incoming attacks. It makes it also very easy to place in the back of the field when it is a magic attacker, since they are not restricted to a position to attack from anywhere. With the Earth Summoner we can also get its attack up to 3 which is very high for cards on this level. On the other spectrum of the field, I chose to go with a Shield Ability Card. This makes our tank very resistible against Melee attackers which we want. On top of that we are having 4 Melee Attack itself with 8 health and 3 armor which allows us to absorb a good amount of hits in general.
With our first and last card in place, we can now think about support cards and damage cards. Let’s kick it off with support cards that I very much like to use. First one is Goblin Psychic. This card is excellent whenever you know it is protected. With 3 mana attack this card can deal some serious damage and will heal your tank that is supposed to protect it. Yes it is on the slower side but if it wouldn’t be, this card would definitely be too overpowered. Another very nice card to use is the Disintegrator. Yes it is a Melee card, but thanks to the Opportunity Ruleset, it will be able to attack from any position! On top of that it will reduce all opponent’s Melee attack by one which is very helpful in this specific ruleset. Last but not least I want to shift the attention to Regal Peryton. I think this card featured several times in my battle logs and that is for good reason. With 6 speed and the flying ability this thing is almost impossible to hit and with 3 magic attack a real weapon. I would always prefer this card for the cost of 5 mana.
Shared Battle!
With out cards out of the way, our strategy is pretty much clear, steer his attacks into our Taunt monster and try to get as much damage in with our magic attackers. This strategy was very successful against this opponent who chose a Dragon set up. His strategy seemed to be based on Sneak attacks with Double Strike Attackers. A very powerful strategy if it is a regular match up. Unfortunately for him, we had the Opportunity Ruleset on which means that his attackers would be very quickly targets due to their low health. This is exactly what happened a few turns in. All of his strategic cards were eliminated and left him with his tank as well as a shell of a team. This was then no big trouble to defeat.
