Week Adrian Lenses.jpg

This is the #49th issue of the "Week through Adrian's Lenses" weekly Hive and crypto news roundup.

I decided to change the subcategories of "Week on Hive". Not all of them will show up every week, and others may be added in time. Their order may change from time to time too.

Let's see what we have for this week.

Week on Hive

23 of 41 tracked posts made it to this week's issue of the "Week on Hive" roundup.

Governance / Development / Dapps

Initial Discussions About Improving the Multisig Implementation on Hive

This is a tech-level discussion with most users probably not interested in understanding the details.

@vaultec published a proposal to implement BLS signatures on Hive after realizing the current implementation of the multisig system on Hive is a serious drawback on the development of the VSC Network (particularly, limitations on the custodial part of the VSC bridge from the Hive side).

Discussions with the Blocktrades team followed and were made public. Looks like the conclusion so far is that Blocktrades' Hive core team is "tentatively planning to support BLS signatures" on L1, "unless something unexpectedly comes up once we dive into the details of implementing it.".

LIVE Threadcasts From INLEO in Testing

Threadcasts evolved to be one of the most popular Threads features of INLEO almost by accident since the team never expected them to gain such momentum. It was more of another nice-to-have feature, but the reality shows you won't know what explodes in popularity until it happens. The team just added an upgrade to Threadcasts, currently available on their testing platform Labs, which makes it much more interactive for the entire active user base of INLEO. Check out the details about Live Threadcasts!

Splinterlands and... Related

Part 3 of the Praetoria Land 2.0 Whitepaper was released this week with another one to be published before the Town Hall/Square from tomorrow. This one is about buildings.

A proposal was made for GLS/GLG to improve the pack tokenomics.

This is not for regular users, but for developers, mostly: @cryptomancer shared the Rebellion Conflicts APIs.

Related to Splinterlands, but not from their team, the Splintercards website got updated for land with a bunch of useful stats.

SPK Network

During the testnet phase of Proof of Access, team meetings from the SPK Network should be very helpful for those interested.

DBuzz Had Plenty to Share

In a development update (140th), DBuzz discussed their new features and bug fixes, including:

  • their long-form content interface
  • their lite accounts (log in with MetaMask - they were helped by the SPK Network team @threespeak )
  • integration of Sting Chat, developed by Peak Open
  • their auto-vote program, now with the option to filter by tag (for example, to filter out dbuzz posts)
  • more

I liked their Buzz widget, which can be added to any website.

They also open-sourced their code. Don't know where it is to link to it, but I'm sure it can easily be found out if one is curious.

HiveLive DHF Proposal

@bambukah created this proposal for his set of tools. I would have liked a better distinction between what was already released and what is the subject of this proposal from the coding perspective.

Rise of the Pixels

A new game that is already in beta and testable (without real rewards) once you buy at least a license from the shop ($8), but probably a few packs too ($3). Packs can't be opened, but they increase the reputation of the game studio until the game release, apparently. Note that I haven't tried it, so I speak from what I read so far. Here's a follow-up update.

Golem Overlord Daily Quests

Quests probably changed the face of GO for some players. Starting this week, there are daily quests too, for players who have reached Prestige 3 or higher. The tier of the quest is proportional to the prestige level, up to level 5.

Daily quests are also a sink for shards, which need to be burned to unlock rewards.

WOO Launched Its Public Beta

According to this announcement WOO should have launched the public beta gameplay. I'm so not on top of this subject that I don't even know the link to their website. Sorry that I couldn't be more helpful!

BROFund In the Gaming World?

They released, together with a partner, a minigame, according to this announcement.

Options for Hive Witnesses

@themarkymark published this week two posts, both useful to Hive witnesses. One regarding the optimization of network power usage and one with logging tricks when monitoring your witness (backup).

Marketing / Awareness / Branding

Developing Features for "Them"

@lordbutterfly proposes an interesting potential narrative shift, where it applies. We don't develop features "for Hive", we do it "for them". In this case, "them" is bitcoiners and what we are improving is Bitcoin. Through the bridge developed by VSC. Maxis are so self-centered that it might even work. Some of them also think Bitcoin is or will be a currency... So if they like a narrative, they'll go with it, no matter if it's true or false. And in this case, it's not even false, it's just a matter of wording... Like a true marketer, lol.

Hive in Ghanaian Media

Normally, I include the topic of "Ghana Boreholes" in the 'Philanthropy' sub-section. But in this case, we are talking about coverage of the launch event in media, which also puts the name of Hive out there.

Meetings / Events / Communities

VIBES Community for Weekly Music Contests

Again @lordbutterfly (he's been busy!), created this community with specific rules, to attract musicians that hang out on X. Here's his post.

Crypto Class Action Update

@apshamilton published an update regarding the evolution of the Crypto class action, including some amended Appeal documents linked at the end as images.

Philanthropy

As expected from the post added in the Marketing section, Hive Borehole #14 was launched these days. Some happy faces over there...

Week in the Crypto World

All steps converge toward institutional adoption...

BlackRock and Others Meet Repeatedly with the SEC to Discuss Their Bitcoin Spot ETF Fillings

To me, this seems almost like a guarantee of at least one Bitcoin spot ETF being approved soon (but likely in January). Inflexible positions could have led to unexpected results, but "negotiations" (even though legally they are not) will likely lead to some compromises that both parties can agree with. Here are more details.

Google Policy Update Allows Ads For US Crypto Trusts

US crypto trust = Blackrock's Spot ETF, for example. Just in time, right? They'll be allowed starting at the end of January. Read more!

S&P Ratings for Stablecoins

Average investors love to check S&P, Moody's, or Fitch ratings, preferably all three, to "validate" their own research (when there is one)... So, I guess they'd be happy if S&P translates "crypto" and particularly "stablecoins" and the risk associated with them into a simple scale. For stablecoins they have a scale from 1 to 5, 5 being the worst. It also looks like Moody's beat them to this. You can follow the news here.

Thanks for compiling these as always. The GO daily quest is a very nice sink for Shard and gives it a use case and burn. The ETF and Google news are really nice to see, and should give more exposure to Crypto.

Immortal Creed just recently started their gameplay as well. It is nice to see WOO finally starting to make their move, together with the belts in the conventions.

Yes, the SHARD use case was necessary and I believe quests are a good way to keep people playing.

It is nice to see WOO finally starting to make their move, together with the belts in the conventions.

It was about time for them, too.

Immortal Creed just recently started their gameplay as well.

I missed this one. Have you tried it?

The ETF and Google news are really nice to see, and should give more exposure to Crypto.

Well, they will give more exposure to ETFs, which are not crypto, but may have something to do with crypto internally (as a settlement mechanism).

I missed this one. Have you tried it?

I was able to win a pack from one of their tournaments in SPL. I didn't play SPL in its early stages, but the gameplay is similar. You choose an immortal[summoner] which gives some effect to your cards, and you use equipment cards [monsters] to battle. There is a lot of RNG involved.

I thought Blackrock was offering BTC ETFs? I personally have little knowledge about ETFs, that's why I thought it would be good exposure to Crypto as a whole.

I thought Blackrock was offering BTC ETFs?

Yeah, but you buy shares into the ETF, usually with fiat. The question is how does settlement happen. I saw the SEC insists to be in fiat, which practically means it has nothing to do with crypto, other than the price of bitcoin as a base for their shares. I also understand BlackRock insists the settlement be made in kind, which means if payments are made in bitcoin, settlement is made in bitcoin, if payment is made in fiat, settlement is in fiat, as far as I understand this. Neither version says settlements should be in bitcoin, which would bring bitcoin to the moon if tons of fiat buy their shares.

I see, that makes a lot of sense, and I couldn't fault both parties for their sides. Thanks again for the explanation, I am learning a lot.

I didn't realize that DBuzz started going into long-form. It makes me wonder if all the front-ends will eventually move towards having both short and long-form content.

I've seen them talk about long form for a while, but they said they'll keep separate the two interfaces. Maybe more front ends will integrate short form too. After all, most platforms (generally speaking, not on Hive) become a hub for different types of content.

This is turning into a cool newsletter, flesh out the "Options For Hive Witnesses" part as I have just got my Hive witness Server up and running and wanted to ask you for your vote https://vote.hive.uno/@ctrpch

This is turning into a cool newsletter,

Thanks!

I have just got my Hive witness Server up and running

Good to hear! A question: is your witness infrastructure Australian-based or do you rent from Privex?

Like I have been telling my Australian discord friends, this is the first witness server hosted in Adelaide, I am still preparing my Witness Announcement post and will mention all that.

the first witness server hosted in Adelaide

Great to hear that! I wish you good luck with it. I'll free up a slot and vote for you.

Where is @ausbitbank based? East coast of Australia?

Yeh I'm in Brisbane

Thanks. I love it when we cover a wider net of locations with our Hive nodes.

Wow ratings for stablecoins! That's interesting! Thanks for sharing!

They're not even the first ones. Moody's did it first.

The market is looking bearish to us if Bitcoin goes below 3900 then the story will be bad and our coin is going to go down again if it goes below 32 cents.

Yeah, it is possible. In the past, I often remember the second part of December in the red.

Thank you for the informations
I picked a few of them!

You're welcome.
