And I'm Back!!!

Holy mileage!

Since last Wednesday, I haven't sat down other than to sleep. And that is not hyperbole. It's been an adventure!

What am I blabbering about, and why was I gone from posting for almost two weeks? Well, my son competed in the Western Regional Clay Championships in Las Vegas, which is 1134 miles from my house. It's fairly easy to fly with a firearm in the US, but ammo is another story, and we had to take all of the team's ammo, so we had several thousand shotgun rounds to deal with, so, like last year, we drove.

Vegas is a 16 hour drive, so we usually split it over two days. The first day we aim to get south of the roads of chaos that is Salt Lake City, which we did, we made it to Springville, Utah and spent the night. The reason we do this is so we can get to the range early the following day so that the kids can get in a few practice rounds before competition begins on Friday.

On the way I got to see several road trip delights such as three million freshly calved baby cows in Montana, the best, authentic Indian chai tea was partaken of in a random truck stop in the high country of Montana, and I spied a billboard for bacon bomb vending machines in Utah. I mean, what is that? I was so intrigued, but really, Utah, the land of trendy consumption and entertaining diversions never disappoints.

Our shoot was at the Clark County Shooting Complex, which is a five star shooting range. It's easy to see why, the range is set up against the mountains north of Las Vegas, and it is just such a glorious facility.

After three days of shooting competition, surprise visits from friends and family, one hotel moving due to a bit of chaos, and two more days driving home, let's just say I am a bit thrashed. In fact, it feels weird to just sit here and type a post, it's felt strange not checking in every other day or so.

But, I have a TON of stuff to share with you all, which I will start doing tomorrow. Today, I have to play catchup. I have so much laundry to do, a house to put back together, and some ranunculus plants that HAVE to be transplanted.

I will say though, that my son took 3rd and medaled in Trap, out of 122 competitors from across the country. We are so proud of him!

It was a good trip:)

And also, big shoutout to @bradleyarrow for hopping on Discord and inquiring if I was still kicking. Love ya Professor B!

And as most of the time, all of the images in this post were taken on the author's very well-traveled iPhone.

BADASS! Super cool he did so well! That's pretty killer and I'm sure it will or has opened some new opportunities. Congrats to you all!

You have me curious now about the bacon bombs...

Thanks:) I am super proud of him, he's worked really hard! And the school just called and the Spokesman is going to do a story on him for the senior showcase thing they do at graduation, so there's lots of smiles going on.

Which is a good thing because his tire blew out completely this morning and I think his timing chain went/is going kaput on the Tacoma, I know you understand that pain...It's always something lol!

And yes, the bacon bombs, I am still most intrigued.

And And, I hope all is going well over yonder!

That's killer he gets a write up. I really hope this leads him to the olympics next cycle...(my little selfish wish) This is the perfect trajectory for that. The frustration and pain of the repair of the taco will be fodder for the future, but it will keep his wheels rolling now.

I'm beyond thankful for the stoic training I put myself through so this insanity of breakdowns, deconstruction, reconstruction, and learning is all just another step in life. My younger self would have already destroyed things trying to beat them into shape instead of doing it slowly and correctly.

So... Lone Crow has meat vending machines here locally. There is one in the foyer of Master's Brewhouse in Deerpark. SUPER cool!

The Olympics is a fantastic wish, and he has the potential (or so I'm told by people who actually know what they are doing lol), but with him shipping out to basic July 8th, I am not sure which path he is going to follow. Right now his focus is to win state in May, and he just informed me he shot fifty straight in skeet today at practice, so I have high hopes for him to accomplish his goal. We shall see.

The Taco is still rolling, I had a little pep talk with it and asked it to hold out until the boy ships out. My plan is to rebuild the engine, as it has a new suspension and transmission, slapping a rebuild into the beast will give me another few hundred thousand miles of Toyota bliss as I plan to drive that beastie while the boy is gone.

It's always rather awesome to reflect on how our Stoic training has and is helping us navigate setbacks. Even though I haven't reached the state of embracing them with true aplomb, I see them more as a learning experience, a challenge to compete in, and they are a less destabilizing force in my life thanks to mindset training. That said, car issues are something that tests it all, and I am so sorry you have had to endure all that, even if you are crushing it in the mental health department.

I looked up the vending machines, and I about squeed when you said we have something like that in our area! Have you tried one of the offerings from the Deer Park one?

I raked and burned for several hours today, I am going to go get cleaned up and chill for a bit now, as school resumes tomorrow, yee haw!

Hope you all had the best weekend!

Ahh that's right, he's enlisting. The range masters will love him for sure! There are sporting options for military members, I knew a tri-athelete out in Medical Lake who was enlisted in the AF and they allowed him to compete.

I'm to the point of just fully rebuilding this engine given I have it down to the block now. If anything it really gets me prepared to tackle my old Yota that had the bottom end go.

We haven't tried the vending yet, we just got a half not too long ago so don't really need more but they have some great cuts and various packs of ground.

I had a couple hikes then a flight from a new place west of Deer Park with the flying club. 9 of us flew with a couple getting some solid altitude. My calves are still on fire though...

Thanks! Tired and proud is a perfect description, it has been non stop laundry and putting out fires since I walked in the door upon getting home lol!

Hope you and Larry are having a splendid day! I'm off to sprout tomatoes!
