Just kidding, there is no normal around here. My life is kinda like Jumanji Fluxx, a very fun card game that I played over the New Year's holiday. Just when you get used to the rules and goals, they shift, and you've got new things in front of you. Also, everything and everyone is trying to end you. That pretty much sums up the game and Kat-life. Okay, maybe not the everyone trying to end you part, but the fluctuation sensation most definitely.
Anyway, mysteries of life musings aside, it's good to be back! For the last two weeks I have been with groups of people every. single. day. My social battery is in definite need of recharge, but honestly, I have loved every single minute of the crazy Christmas through New Year's holiday stretch.
But now, now it is on to the new things. It's interesting how we picked a system of timekeeping and how we have evolved culturally to setting new intentions or wiping slates clean, or musing over what has been accomplished, as our calendar rolls over. I tend to do a lot of introspection as it is, but there's always a little extra existential pondering to be had around this time of year.
Goal-wise, I intend to keep my head down and keep working hard toward my goal of being a licensed mental health clinician. I crushed the entire last year of school, have a 4.0 GPA in college, and am enjoying all the learning very, very much. So my goal there is to keep up that hard work, positive waves mindset.
Speaking of mindset, I have been slowly developing a business idea over the last five years, and this year I intend to quit being a coward and set it free into the world. I'm terrible about overthinking. In this area of my life (and many others), I am embracing the just do it, Kat mentality.
Homestead-wise, this year, after a long hiatus, I am going to raise a batch of meat birds, Red Rangers to be exact, as I don't feel like raising piranhas (Cornish Cross). I will also be raising pigs again. Part of that is that I am loathe to eat public meat, so I gotta do those two things.
I also will be enjoying just gardening and no big building projects this summer. I want a hobbit-esque, existential grow fest to happen. Succession harvesting, expanding perennials, preserving and eating as I go will be the theme.
Another area that I have some ambition in has to do with health. After two years of feeling like absolute canine fecal matter, I am actually feeling a bit more like me. Well, more like me with significant muscle loss. Gone is my kickboxing physique, so, in the name of feeling good and wanting to take some pretty intense mountain hikes, I am engaging in get Kat back in fighting shape training. In fact, I started today!
I have a friend who has quite a few health problems who wanted to start this four month Valkyrie training program. Most of us do better when we have an accountability buddy, so I offered up my carcass for this noble pursuit. (Remind me of the nobility part when I am lamenting about my nemesis the wall sit...)
I am sure I have other goals, but those are the highlights. This holiday season was one of the best I have had in years, I didn't get sick, I got to just enjoy spending time with all sorts of loved ones, we blew up an obscene amount of pyrotechnics on New Year's Eve, my almost child came home on leave from the Marines, my children are grown up and are so amazing to hang out with, the hubs is cute and cuddly, I mean, the list just goes on.
Sure, there are trials and tribulations in life, but there are some absolutely amazing things thrown in the fracas too, and I am so, so elated to be here experiencing it all.
Bring on 2025, yo!

@generikat!
You Are Alive so I just staked 0.1 ALIVE to your account on behalf of @oasiskp2.
I'm bound and determined to try to get some more weight off and to improve my strength in my legs and core. Not up to Valkyrie work, but I am moving and trying to keep moving each day.
I so wish I had the energy to do my own meat too. I hate buying in the store, even if it is from the best farms they offer locally.
I am glad you made it through the holidays without crashing. Sounds like they were simply wonderful.
Happy New Year!
