Even though I had more on my plate today than an enthusiastic buffet attendee, I still had homestead chores to attend to, so after running the boy to school because his truck is up in Bonners Ferry at our friend's shop, running to Sandpoint which is about 45 minutes away to give a blood offering to the medical cartel, and doing several hours of schoolwork, I got around to one of the chores I had to get done today, potting on seedlings.
Yesterday, I got the tomato sprouts potted on, and today's victims, er, I mean beneficiaries were the zinnia sprouts. Somewhere in the last two days I got the double click cosmos potted on too, but I am not sure what day that was. I am still recovering from an epic sword battle that took place at @jacobtothe's bonfire Saturday, not to mention I ran around with toddlers on my shoulders while being beaten with pool noodles.
It was a good time.
The crocus are finally blooming, so I have a pretty big, it's happily springtime smile alighting my mug, even if it's all rainy and gloomy out.
Aside from all the deer smashing car repairs for the second time this year drama, some very good things are happening in my neck of the woods, big change things. Here's some of it, in about mid-August I will be moving. Sorta.
Let's just say the job of a lifetime plopped in my lap. I will basically get to live in a giant log house of my very own on the edge of a private lake in the wilderness of Montana on a big ol' ranch. Yep, the hubs and I are going to be ranch managers. Well, ranch managers who can leave whenever they want and do whatever we want. It's going to be the best gig in my history.
I will still be on our farm occasionally, but I am going to let my daughter and her fiance move into our house so they can save money for the next couple years to build their own house on the farm. Since the hubs will still be running his rifle program and coaching shotgun, I'll keep a room in our house for that eventuality, but overall, we are downsizing and going on an adventure.
I am not sad about this.
My entire childhood was an adventure, so I think it's about time to go on another. Perhaps it will be almost as exciting as the one Bilbo Baggins went on. I mean a girl can dream!
Honestly though, it's getting a bit crowded around here for this rural halfling. I find myself longing for the silence, and where I am heading it is completely silent, save for the occasional lone wolf howling. To sit under the non light pollution tainted stars and contemplate the universe while I listen to the gentle lapping of the lake along the stony shoreline sounds like a bit of heaven. I might even get that cozy fantasy novel I have almost drafted done. You never know.
But in the mean time, I have growth to manage, there's plants to pot on and a farm to upkeep, and the allure of upcoming change to fuel my feet into action.
Life is good.

Ahh, my crocus, while part of the family that saffron crocus are part of, are not the kind that I can get the spice from, sadly. I have thought about growing them, as has my neighbor, perhaps one day!
