The Pistol Class Catering Scenario

in LeoFinance28 days ago

One fun fact about our lives is that the hubs is a certified NRA firearms instructor. This fact has led to all manner of interesting events on our farm. The hub's does not wish to teach adults, and in fact rarely does. In the past he has taught basic pistol safety classes for charity sort of things, but overall, he prefers to coach young people. He often says adults are more of a headache and a safety hazard than the kids. I find that rather humorous.

However, our daughter rang a month ago and asked if the hubs would be willing to teach the basic pistol safety class to her boyfriend's family. Once you complete the basic safety class by a certified instructor, you are issued a card and can take the advanced pistol class so that you can get your enhanced carry license.

We were told it was going to be seven adults. There are currently twelve out in the classroom being instructed by the hubs right now.

Me, I am in charge of the hospitality part of the training. This morning I got up and baked two loaves of artisan sourdough, a few dozen cookies, and put together a massive amount of spaghetti sauce to cook. Aside from the the usual class coffee, tea, hot cocoa, and cookies, since it is family members, I am also feeding them all dinner. As I have been through such things before, I planned to feed at least twenty souls.

There is a lot of spaghetti components lurking around here.

I also did a ton of cleaning. We have had parties/events three days in a row, and it's been a rainy, squishy deluge around here, so my floors were just sad. I mean, it is a farm, but still, I had to do a bunch of scrubbing and cleansing before more folks showed up.

The hubs and the boy also have shotgun practice 20 miles down the road every Sunday, so the hubs came straight from practice, snagged a slice of pizza and a cookie that I had waiting, and went straight into the classroom to start teaching a dozen adults who have no or limited firearms experience.

He's my sweet, I truly admire him.

As I sit here next to the boy who's working on his currently at 14 pages senior research paper, I find myself catching my breath. I still have to make compound garlic butter for the bread, whip together a salad, make some drinks, and line everything out. But honestly, it's not too often that we do an event such as this, and I know it means a lot to the participants and our daughter, which makes it all worth it.

Tomorrow though, tomorrow I am hoping we all get to rest a bit. This week has been a little extra in its intensity...

But at least the house smells good!!

And as most of the time, all of the images in this post were taken on the author's now encrusted with a combination of organic flour and home grown tomato sauce iPhone.

Poor phone, but I bet it smells good! Good on hubby for doing the class.
