Tencent Holding Ltd., also known als Tencent, is a Chinese multinational technology conglomerate holding company. Founded in 1998, its subsidiaries globally market various Internet-related services and products, including in entertainment, artificial intelligence, and other technology. Tencent owns WeChat (called Weixin in China) which has over 1.2 billion users, both inside China and around the world. It is often compared to WhatsApp though it’s more akin to a separate operating system: just like you might use Google’s Android for a variety of tasks, it is used to read news, pay bills, order transport or food, and run small businesses.

Tencent makes a lot of money via gaming. Tencent is the largest video games publisher in the world. It owns a 40% stake in Fortnite studio, Epic games. It also owns the entire League of Legends studio, Riot Games.
