As a Czech, I've always known :)) We all have second houses in the countryside, our (grand)parents built them themselves (as there was nothing else to on weekends during the Communism), and we have to maintain those 50-70 years old DYI huts :)

Also, it gives me arguments to not to move to a countryside house as my girlfriend suggests every now and then :)) I know how much extra effort it is compared to a city flat :))
well THAT I know all about at least. I grew up in such a house, and is familiar with how work never ends
True :) What may look romantic to a city-dweller is just nevereding duties for the house-owner and their family. And I do enjoy some of the works, especially woodcutting and axing. Hate some others, though.
Woodcutting is nice. I also enjoy garden work, especially in the spring. But yeah, it's too much
