Another top level moneylender Zenith Bank said it will briefly suspend the use of platinum cards abroad for cash withdrawals and cut the month to month spending limit abroad by the greater part to $200.

"This audit is in response to the present financial realities," Zenith said in a notification, advising clients to request prepaid dollar cards.

Different lenders — Ecobank and Fidelity Bank — have also brought down withdrawal limits for individuals while abroad.

Such moves have previously been at the behest of the national bank, however it was not satisfactory if the controller was behind the latest activity. The national bank didn't respond to a request for input.

The bank is doing combating to conserve dollar reserves that are down 19% from a year back. Last week it deteriorated the cash on the official market inciting the naira to debilitate on the dark and over-the-counter spot markets.

Bankers revealed to Reuters that it currently takes over six months to settle remote lines of credit.

Nigeria is yet to resume forex sales to retail money traders after it prohibited worldwide travel as a major aspect of a lockdown measure to slow the spread of the coronavirus that has murdered 778 individuals and contaminated more than 36,000.
