Whatever time moves us forward we hear and see many inventions and discoveries that were impossible to happen in years or centuries before that.
Today, for example, an electronic eye was invented that enables blind people to see and look at everything around them for the first time.
- In a German medical company, an electronic eye was unveiled, which is a device placed on the retina. Experiments were conducted on nine blind people suffering from pigment retinitis.
- This device interacts with the light and sends signals that match the image formed in the depth of the retina in the optic nerve.
- In a statement to the German medical company, it confirmed that three people out of nine had tested the eye on them and had been able to read the letters spontaneously.
Some patients also said that they are now able to recognize faces and distinguish between things such as reading pendants on the doors and mobile phones.
As for the transplant, it is a small slide (3 millimeters) wide that interacts with light and sends signals. This system is fed with a micro cable attached to a microscopic device implanted behind the ear and uses external wireless technology.
The company announced the electronic eye after approval obtained by the American Agency for Medicines, and this eye is called (Argos 2 and costs about 73 thousand euros).
