Introduction
The world wide web was introduced into the world in 1991 by a man named Tim Berners Lee. Since then the world and humans are directly or indirectly affected by the web. Most of the things people do today is being attached to the web. Most information today are gotten from the web. The web has been serving humans for decades now and has proven to be very important to humans.
In this article I will be explaining how the web has continually evolved until until now. But the I will first define what the world wide web means. I will also outline the advantages of web
What is World Wide Web?
According to Leoglossary
The World Wide Web is a collection of websites, pictures, videos and other online content that can be accessed via a Web browser. It runs on the Internet, which is the underlying infrastructure.
It is the medium that allows information to be shared. The Web is a network of online content that is formatted in HTML and accessed via HTTP.
Before the initiation of world wide web into the public by Tim Berners Lee the internet only existed in a more limited form. It was being used by researchers and military to facilitate file sharing and communication.
Email was mostly used then because it allows some online interaction.
Before 1991 the internet was less accessible to the general public. It was very static as there hasn't been any social Media platform. The earlier achievement of the internet marked the foundation phase of internet. It created the stage for the advancement we see it today. The early stage of the internet is called web 1.0.
Web 2.0
Web 2.0 is the second generation of world wide web after web 1.0. It started operation around the year 2000. It is a more advanced web which is more dynamic and it enables a global interaction among people everywhere in the world. Since the idea of web 2.0 was implemented we can now see social media platforms like X Facebook, Tiktok, YouTube, and Instagram which has over time had millions of online interactions on their website. Web it is no longer static and used only by researcher and military, but it is now open to people everywhere in the world. This are advancement created a shift from simple consuming information to actively taking part, sharing and engaging in a friendly online environment.
Unlike web 1.0, web 2.0 is promoting user generated content. It has also increased interaction among people all over the world web 2.0 really brought the web to people as a tool to help daily living. Since the idea of web 2.0 was implemented we've seen advancement both in technology and how people send and consume information.
Note: Web 2.0 is never an invention rather it represent a set of idea and trend not a specific technology on something invented by a single individual.
Now after web 2.0 we are seeing another version of the World wide Web called what 3.0.
Let us discuss a little about it.
What is web 3.0?
Web 3.0 is the future of worldwide web. It promotes a more advanced interconnectedness and the decentralized internet. With web 3.0 we can see a world where machines can understand and interprete information more better, and this in a sense is leading to a more personalized and content aware services.
Web 3.0 through it decentralized nature is shifting control from central bodies to users, and this is promoting privacy and security unlike 2.0 which is solely controlled by associate companies.
Unlike web 2.0 web 3.0 gives it users a sense of ownership. Web 3.0 allow users to own the internet.
Let me give an example;
In X which is the mostly used web 2.0 social platform, users can be blocked or maybe even have parameters to what they can say or post. I can remember a friend tweeter account being for a minor reason.
This is very different from web 3.0.
Let us take inleo threads for an example. Inleo threats is just the same like web 2.0 X. You can post, engage, and advertise your products on threads. Threads can't take your account down and the can't delete your message because it is stored on the Hive blockchain. Inleo threats is also tokenized which means you can be rewarded for posting and engaging with other people's threads.
Web 3.0 helps us understand that we are kings and queens and should have control over our Data and account.
Advantages of Web 3.0
There are a lot of advantage of web 3.0 but here are few of them;
Decentralization: Web 3.0 leverages on blockchain technology, so it is going to make possible for a more greater decentralize internet which can improve security, privacy and also eliminate the total reliance on central servers.
Web 3.0 Enhance Trust and Privacy: Because web 3.0 operate on blockchain technology and is decentralized it helps promote trust and security. Unlike web 2.0 transactions or information on web 3.0 cannot be easily deleted because it has been stored on a blockchain. This reduces the harm which are associated with centralized control.
In conclusion, the web has continually evolved from it tactic nature to a more advanced state. Web 3.0 is shading light and making web what it should be.
