DeepSeek iOS app sends data unencrypted to ByteDance-controlled servers
With time passing by, the Chinese AI chatbot «DeepSeek» is raising more and more security & privacy concerns. According to a Feb. 6th publication by «NowSecure», the app sends sensitive data unencrypted to ByteDance-controlled servers, with Apple's App Transport Security (ATS) globally disabled. DeepSeek uses outdated 3DES encryption with hardcoded keys identical for all iOS users.
All information is stored on servers in China, and the company's privacy policy allows sharing data with authorities.
Security experts warn against using the app for sensitive data, with the Android version reportedly being even less secure than its iOS counterpart.
