My metamask was hacked! How did this happen?

in LeoFinance2 years ago (edited)

More than a year ago, a hacker entered my metamask wallet and stole more than $400 usdt.

How did he get it? I will tell you in a minute, but first, let me explain my journey from the cryptoverse begins...

First steps:
I entered the world of cryptocurrencies since 2018 I think, and when I bought my first $100 in BTC it was a unique feeling.

I had a wallet and some BTC in it, which didn't last long there, because I invested it in a "super good and prestigious" Spanish company called MindCapital, which did cryptocurrency "arbitrage".

Of course, it turned out to be a scam, a pyramid scheme with referrals and I ended up losing my money and my supposed earnings. All this, after almost 1 year of promoting this company and dedicating time to it.

As you can see, my entry into crypto was not pleasant at all.

I went through several airdrops on yobit, a somewhat strange exchange, but in the end, always after a thousand tasks to complete, they left me some money.

Also the well-known faucets, such as mainly freebitcoin and its HI LO game, so that you lose much more than you win always and despite everything, even if yobit tells you that it is based on a seed and that the system is not rigged to that you lose, Is anyone going to believe them?

How is it possible that you bet on the HI, for example, with a martingale and that you get the LO 30 times in a row?

Supernatural it's your bad luck if this isn't rigged!

Later I joined read cash. I found a community there at Club1BCH. Friends for life. The mission was to get to have 1 BCH in the wallet, and for them we had to write articles, just like this platform or ecosystem and get the attention of Rusty (AI in charge of giving the biggest tips on BCH).

In read cash and also with other projects, I managed to get 11 BCH. How wonderful, right?

More now that the BCH is almost $200 and it made a x2 in less than 1 week.

Turns out I don't have them. I sold my BCH when the price was $101. Even when the price recently returned to $90 I didn't buy back, even though I said a thousand times that I would, I didn't.

The $400 usdt lost came thanks to Pegaxy, a P2E NFT game that was very popular at the time. But the popularity decreased and its token ended up losing its value and today it is difficult for it to recover its value in a near future.

I had the usdt in my wallet in metamask. One day I urgently needed a crack for a program. Thanks to that urgency, I neglected in terms of security on my PC. I went to youtube and downloaded a crack, but I didn't notice that the user barely had followers and that the video barely exceeded 100 views and no valid comments, until after what happened.

I download the crack and run it. Game over!

I didn't see anything on the screen, the crack apparently didn't even run, but from behind it was already doing its magic.
I deleted the file thinking that it was useless. Soon after, I'm going to check my wallet and see that it's at 0 usdt. The terror took possession of me.

I closed everything and reopened the wallet, still at 0. I went to transactions and there it was, they had emptied the wallet.

Everything changed from that moment. I spent months terrified of security everywhere. I always thought they were scamming me or trying to hack me. They were difficult times, they still are, but I have learned to overcome that enormous loss.

Helpful tips:

  1. Never download anything from the internet without first checking the source several times.

  2. If you have the possibility (not all of us have it) have a PC or mobile only for cryptos and do not install anything more than what is necessary on them.

  3. Do not trust anyone who sends you a link, much less if you did not request it before.

  4. Use in crypto only the money that you are willing to lose and that does not affect your immediate future or that of your family.

What other advice could you give?
Has this ever happened to you?

Thanks for reading me guys 😀
