Yes I think BTC was bound to lose dominance. The problem is that there isn't much use case while ETH can be used as gas fees. I expect ETH to slowly lose dominance as well since people will naturally opt for lower fees.

I agree that the dominance will fade simply because the two of them still account for 70% of the total market cap.
That said, Ethereum has the development and that is not stopping. That is going to make them hard to counteract. Where the development is where growth takes place.
ETH still have more developers than any other chain, and by a wide margin. Until that changes, it is hard to fight what is taking place on there.
