1/5 🧵

Looking at the 2025 list of newcomers and holdovers being voted on to make it into the MLB Hall of Fame

In my opinion, Ichiro is an automatic no-brainer on the list. Hands down. Not really seeing anyone else that is a slam dunk especially if they are associated with the steroid era and was accused of using it.

CC and/or King Felix for the newcomers wouldn't surprise me and on the holdovers Beltran and/or Hunter wouldn't shock me.

But if I had to pick only one - Ichiro would be the unanimous vote.

Here is an overview of the players on the 2025 MLB Hall of Fame ballot, which includes both newcomers and holdovers:

Sort:

5/5 -🧵

Holdovers (continued)

  • Mark Buehrle: Known for his consistency and durability, especially his no-hitter and perfect game.
  • Torii Hunter: A nine-time Gold Glove winner in center field, but his offensive stats might not fully support his case.
  • Curtis Granderson: Respected for his contributions to multiple playoff teams and his overall career stats.

Saw the list on The Athletic and on ESPN, but the generated the list on Grok.

CC has been working with his PR team to clean his image so it's fine that he is again seen as a good guy; but I agree that the impact that Ichiro has made in Baseball is legendary...

Very true. Happy Tuesday 🤘🏽

2/5 -🧵

Newcomers:

  • Ichiro Suzuki: Widely expected to be a strong candidate for unanimous selection, known for his hitting prowess, having over 3,000 hits in MLB despite starting his career late in the U.S., and his impact on baseball across continents.
  • CC Sabathia: A Cy Young Award winner with over 250 wins and 3,000 strikeouts, Sabathia had a significant impact both in the regular season and playoffs.
  • Félix Hernández: Known for his dominant period from 2009-15, including winning the Cy Young Award in 2010, but his career was cut short by injuries.
  • Dustin Pedroia: An MVP winner and key player in the Boston Red Sox's successful era, despite injuries limiting his later years.

3/5 -🧵

Newcomers (continued)

  • Ian Kinsler: A versatile second baseman with multiple All-Star appearances known for his power-speed combination.
  • Russell Martin: Recognized for his defensive skills at catcher and his contributions to several competitive teams.
  • Brian McCann: A six-time Silver Slugger winner at catcher, though his offensive reputation might overshadow his defensive contributions in voter eyes.
  • Troy Tulowitzki: An exceptional shortstop when healthy, known for his hitting and defense, but his career was injury-shortened.
  • Ben Zobrist: Noted for his utility role, playing multiple positions effectively, though his case for the Hall might be less straightforward due to his unique career path.

4/5 -🧵

Holdovers:

  • Billy Wagner: This is his 10th and final year on the ballot. Wagner, a dominant closer, fell just five votes short in 2024.
  • Carlos Beltrán: Continues to gain support, potentially due to his all-around skills, but his association with the 2017 Astros sign-stealing scandal has impacted his vote counts.
  • Andruw Jones: Has seen his vote percentage increase significantly, recognized for his defensive excellence and power at center field.
  • Bobby Abreu: A consistent performer with a solid on-base percentage and stolen base totals, though not yet reaching the induction threshold.
  • Alex Rodriguez: Despite his impressive statistics, his past with PEDs continues to affect his voting results.
