@kingworldline here is a #threadstorm and hopefully it will give you a basic understanding of the American Football 🏈 game 👇🏽

Sort:
  1. American football is a sport played by two teams of 11 players each on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end.
  1. The main objective of the game is to score more points than the other team by moving the ball across the opponent’s goal line (touchdown) or kicking it through the uprights of the goalposts (field goal).
  1. The game is divided into four quarters of 15 minutes each, with a 12-minute halftime break after the second quarter.
  1. Each team has three units: offense, defense, and special teams. The offense is the unit that has possession of the ball and tries to advance it down the field by running or passing it.
  1. The defense is the unit that tries to stop the offense from scoring by tackling the ball carrier or intercepting the pass. The special teams are the units that perform kicking plays, such as kickoffs, punts, or field goals.
  1. The game starts with a coin toss to determine which team will kick off (kick the ball to the other team) or receive (catch the ball and start their offense) first. The teams switch roles at the start of the second half.
  1. The team that has possession of the ball (the offense) has four chances (called downs) to move the ball at least 10 yards closer to the opponent’s end zone. If they succeed, they get a new set of four downs.
  1. If they fail, they have to give up the ball to the other team (the defense), either by punting it (kicking it away) or turning it over on downs (failing to reach the required distance).
  1. The offense can score a touchdown (worth six points) by crossing the opponent’s goal line with the ball or catching a pass in the end zone.
  1. After scoring a touchdown, the offense can attempt an extra point (worth one point) by kicking the ball through the uprights of the goalposts, or a two-point conversion by running or passing the ball into the end zone again.
  1. The offense can also score a field goal (worth three points) by kicking the ball through the uprights of the goalposts from anywhere on the field
  1. This is usually done when they are close enough to the end zone but not confident enough to score a touchdown.
  1. Defense can score points by tackling the ball carrier in their own end zone (called a safety, worth 2 points), or by intercepting a pass or recovering a fumble and returning it to the opponent’s end zone (worth a 6 point touchdown).
