We talk about information all day but how many of us know about the fundamentals of information? Is it about news or is it something deeper?
What is information?
What are the benefits of information? How are things acquired? How do people acquire information? How can we use information better to support our lives and our economies? When is it most helpful to have information? We often try to get things done by telling people what they want to hear, but that’s not always the best way to approach a situation. We can’t remember everything and the best way to handle information is to think of it as knowledge and use it. Here are my favorite resources for digging deeper into information. Where do you get your information? What happens when people don’t listen to or share information?
Information, a universal currency
Today I would like to explain what is information and what does it do? And, in the process, show you how important information is and how underutilized it is. It’s just information. The basic definition of information is nothing more than the universal currency of communication. Without it, we would have no way of communicating and no way to exchange information. In many ways, the essence of information is just having access to it. Information, after all, can be found everywhere around us and can be used in many different ways. In fact, information is everything and everywhere. Take a moment to imagine that information can do anything that it wants to. Could it wreak havoc on your social life? Does it have the power to change the world?
Information in the digital age
Information, the essential building block of our planet, is the basis of our life, culture and economy. Information is simply raw data; this could be anything from a website to a 3D animation of the Ben Franklin quote "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." In the digital age, information is widespread. But for most people, they have very little idea about the basics. Here are a few facts and some buzzwords you need to know. Information basics We all have access to some information but information that is relevant to our life is information we can trust and rely on. What is trust? Well, trust is what you feel in someone or something.
Information and society
On the way to the top of the mountain, you need to gather knowledge, wisdom, and experience and then you have to go down the mountain and back up the mountain again! For the US economy and Wall Street, the 'height' of the mountain was the years 1999-2001. The summit was the years 2001-2002. The base was 1999. The peak was 2002. The bottom of the mountain was 2003-2010. It is a downward spiral in most economies. It is the stage of recession. The peak was the year 2011. This is the bottom of the mountain. There is no light at the end of the tunnel, only two periods that most people feel okay. One is 2008. The other is 2017, the year Donald Trump was elected President of the United States. There was no light on the horizon of the 2012's. The economy was in a bear market.
Information in the future
What will information be like in the future? Information will be contained in information aggregators or as metadata. Now people think of information as a unique asset but what is unique is a long term exchange. - Jeff Coleman In the past time and place has not been as important as it is now. Meaning that the information from which someone gains is primarily time and place independent. In other words, media company’s and news aggregation companies are owned by local monopolies. Because of this the ability of a public person or an organization to gain information about information within a social community is limited. We do not have access to information based on topic or location. How will we exchange information in the future?
