You are right about money and personal reputation, it can respect can be lost quickly like it never existed.
It is always better to be careful, I've learnt a few lessons in my life I hope not to repeat the mistake of trusting people with money again because some are not good at paying debt even if they wish to pay.
I've experienced something similar with a friend of mine. Ever since she owed me, she starting avoiding me like I'm the plague. Anytime I tried to talk to her about anything apart from the debt she thinks I'm indirectly asking for her to pay me back.
Money changes a lot in person relationships. Sometimes, even effective communication like I mentioned on the post doesn't solve the problem. Some people will just duck you and never come back up again.
