I have to admit....This was unlike any other day I've ever had on social media!
And I do hope it's a lesson for not only everyone reading it, but also for me as well to remember....Things gt lost in translation behind screens.
Let's set this up....
So I share this picture of my dog this morning, both on Threads and on Facebook. The reason I shared it on Facebook is because this is the platform I community with old friends and family on. My age demographic, and the people I grew up around....Aren't really TikTokers lol
The post was meant to be funny.
My dog was just beginning her heat cycle. Which means she's going to be bleeding for the next few weeks. And as we had just moved into our new home, we didn't want 'drips' all over the floors.
And this is the 6th dog I have owned in my life. All of them females. And each one of them, I got spayed for multiple reasons, but at the end of the day the biggest reason was for the dog's health.
But this time, we didn't have enough time to get her done, so the vet said don't spay her a few months before a cycle or at least 8 weeks after. So again....This was expected that we'd have to deal with some bleeding.
Anywho, long story short I threw this picture up as a joke and to 'have some fun' at my dog's expense as she walks around with a diaper and cone of shame for a few weeks.
I thought nothing of it other than a good laugh....
And that's when my wake up call happened on social media...
As you can see from this exchange, someone on my friends list didn't think it was funny. And decided to lecture me about responsible dog ownership.
Let me again reiterate....I've owned 6 female dogs. I get each of them spayed. But even if I didn't have that habit, I just thought it was super weird for someone who, funny enough, I don't really know at all to tell me what I should or should not do for my dogs.
Here's the problem I find with social media, which I'm sure everyone has experienced before...
Jokes, comments and sayings get lost in translation online. Sometimes we say or post things that may seem funny to us, but offends others?
I'm not sure that will ever change because everyone has an opinion and if you don't agree with them, you are wrong....(Them the rules!!!!)
But this was just such a weird experience for me....I decided to chalk it up as someone having a bad day, and wanted to voice their opinion on a post they didn't agree with. But I think the problem was....
They never understood the 'meaning' behind the post. It was never meant to say, I don't want to get my dog spayed, far from it. It was just a funny picture that my wife took of our mean ol' nasty Rottweiler and I wanted to share it.
Maybe get a laugh or two from others out of it. No way was it meant to offend.
But alas....This is the interwebs and well...We offend very easily these days.
My takeaway....I need to spend more time on $LEO and $HIVE and less time on Zuck's platform lol

Hahaha I saw that one on Facebook. Funny how people always want to chime in on telling you what you should be doing with your own life 😂
Man, I just laughed. I don't even know her, that's the weirdest thing lol Telling a complete stranger what they should be doing is just odd.
Indeed. I find that people on Facebook tend to be sanctimonious, judgy, rude or brag a lot.
People seem to jump out of their way to get offended. They take the opportunity to jump at things like falling over in front of a bus and then claiming that the bus driver was trying to murder them.
Or even more accurate: Its like getting on a plane and flying to the location of a user, find out where they drive, THEN throw themselves before your vehicle and claiming you were trying to hurt them.
I don't see that on Facebook thankfully. There is a repercussion to being an ass.

lol that's what i'm saying. i thought it was hilarious.
Lol, that's socmed for you. Everybody has opinions about anything that will throw at you. That's why I stay away from fb nowadays.

It's an evil place lol
Here on Hive, I generally see more of an effort to understand the poster's intent or message, before commenting or responding.
On legacy social media, or untokenized social media, there is an observable pattern of reactionary response. The informal token is of course dopamine.

Yeah man I never gt into anything too serious here. Even with religious debates, it never gets heated.
There are many abnormal people on those social media platforms.
everyone's got a voice now, and sometimes we need to know when to use it and when to not. personally, if i see something i dont agree with i just try to scroll through.
but wow, it's tempting to add our two cents lol
It's a bit more reward to add some Sloth :)

I see this sort of thing happening more and more on FB. IDK if people do not read what was written in its entirety or feel the need to comment on just the picture or they read what someone else said and go off of it. Either way, it is none of their business what you do with your dog, as long as it is not abused. It gets annoying.
Beautiful girl you have, I had a boy Rotty for 12 years, they are the most loyal and sweetest dogs, like Pits, they get a bad rap.

yeah this is my second rottie. first one lived to be 13 which is rare. i had to get a second one. best dogs ever. my wife keeps getting yorkies, which i can't stand lol
that's exactly it. even if i didnt get her spayed, why are they acting like the pet police about it lol
Your dog hits cycle? I’m shocked because I never knew dogs menstruate
Twice a year....For about 2-3 weeks lol
We'll get her fixed in a few months.
People have so much free time that criticizing is now the national sport. "Free time is the devil's plaything"
It's a probably with the social media now and that is why I don't do anything there. I just don't think its worth it as people take things too literally there.
Sometimes the fear of being misunderstood holds me back from sharing my shit on social media but I think it's not necessary to let other people's opinions influence our lives beyond reasonable limits.
I never knew about the time frame about spaying with regards to the cycle. 6 dogs is a lot, you definitely know about dogs.
This is the norm now and it seems to be on the rise these days. People always have strong opinions about other people's personal lives.
Good a thing you had your fun regardless of another's bad day.
social media contains a lot of people with different mindsets and ideas
