After a couple of amazing showings by Terra / Luna and more recently Celsius, the crypto markets took another massive hit over the past few days.
Seas of red!!!
It really does remind me of early 2018 when the industry basically self-imploded lol
And I don't mean to laugh, because honestly...Lots of people have been hurt by this recent crash. And as much as we seem to scream from the mountain tops..

'Never spend a dime that you cannot afford to lose!'
....We still see people lose their life savings because of some scheme or scam that sadly, seems to have a home here in the crypto space.
And oh boy, this is Christmas Eve for the Bitcoin maxis! They'll smile from ear to ear and let everyone know how everything is a s%tcoin*, and the only thing that matters is BTC. It's amazing how quick people will turn on each other when things aren't going to the moon...
The problem with the BTC Maxi mentality is, you can't do anything with bitcoin. You can look at it! You can make it a store of value. But it's 'value' will always go up and down, so other than crossing your fingers and waiting for the promise of 1 million dollar BTC...You can look at it!
Or in the case of Celsius, you can lend it to them, they'll pay you a percentage and you can get some returns for being a bank...Except of course when Celsius shuts down all withdrawals and says...Sorry, we're having issues!
And that brings me to what I did last night...

I had a few extra bucks in Coinbase, and while I'm not saying Coinbase is going the ways of Celsius, I thought to myself...The safest place for my crypto, where I can earn from it every day, have it secure and actually...Wait for it...USE IT...

I might be one of 'them' after all!
After almost a decade of being in this crypto stuff, there is no better blockchain for my time, money and effort. In fact, I'll even argue, everything else sucks LOL
I hate Ethereum, as it's about as user friendly as smashing your toe with a hammer.
Bitcoin has too many 'maxis' and a community of know it alls. Plus don't remind them that you can't really do anything with it other than look at it...
I never go into any of the BSC stuff. Let's just say I have a bad taste in my mouth since Binance sided with 'the blockchain that shall remain nameless' when we split to Hive.
I'm not a prophet by any means, but something seemed off with Celsius about a half year ago to me...So I took all my BTC out of it.
Hive and it's layer 2 projects are everything I need in crypto. Maybe I'm not diversified. Maybe I'll miss out on some amazing opportunity down the road. But that's it for me...I'm not a 'trader' so that siully DeFi stuff isn't my interest. I like parking my HBD and watching it grow every single month. Boring I guess....
But there's a whole lot less drama here than what people cry about on Crypto Twitter these days!

DeFi seems to nearly always be Degenerate Finance.
I'm only interested in stuff with Utility. Bitcoin is my savings, Lightning is a way to make micro to small payments and Hive is my home on the web.
I've pulled all my BTC out of anything that was promising crazy interest, it was nice while it lasted, but it was always temporary. I completely understand where HBD is coming from so I'm happy holding some of that.
Yield is temporary.
Hive & Bitcoin are permanent.

It's been worth it on our end, we wont even look elsewhere.
I will say I enjoy using BSC for allot of my DEFI and it works well for building because it is way cheaper than using ETH and much faster and more stable than Polygon. I try not to fall too much into the whole tribalism thing.
My main problem with putting too much money into the Hive Engine system, anymore than I already have, is the fact that it is EXTREMELY centralized and heavily supported by Aggroed. So if he ever decided to pull liquidity from the pools, things wouldn't be good at all. That's why I use BSC and platforms like Pancakeswap and Venus which have large amounts of decentralized liquidity.
I do still believe in Bitcoin as well, I just ignore the maxis. But the more and more things implode, the more and more of a Hive and Bitcoin maxi I become.
It's not perfect for sure, but they are working to make it much more decentralized. Plus there are more options coming through the pipeline.
Yeah I just dont do the trading stuff, so I stay clear from it. I'm a very boring crypto investor LOL

i think that truly is the definition of hive.
Coinbase is extremely shady. I never keep a cent there. I remember they locked my ethereum in past. I think big amount should always stay in your desktop wallet. I also feel that hive on that note is lot safer as we just need our own keys for control.
On the topic of the bloodbath, what do you think is the future of NEXO and Celsius?
i always liked nexo. i think they do a good job but at the end of the day, all these centralized platforms can always shut you down.
Even with Terra, I was looking through their Eco-System and couldn't find many uses or things getting built. Use cases and community are critical. I will happily stay on Hive!

Storing value is cool but with the volatility of cryptocurrency you'll always be on a roller coaster with your emotions, lol. When I look at my time, I would say that I spend 99.5% of in on hive, I do 95% of my transactions on hive and hive-engine. Why should I care about all the other stuff that I never use ? We are all hive maximalists :-)

My favorite part about hive is that it’s a full eco system.
Blockchain was started on the idea that the shadow banking system was failing us… that there was an element of the economy that none of us could really participate in and yet it impacted us all…
Fast forward to today and it seems that most of the projects being built are built in a way that are a great place for whales - but not practical for minnows. They seemed to be designed to build a new crypto class in a way.
Hive is one of the only projects I’ve seen where whales and minnows alike can participate and see their own level of real world impact in their daily lives.
Every day I learn more about projects on hive that are set to change society and not just line crypto bros pockets. BTC is great, but it’s already done and is doing the thing it was designed for and won’t really do much else… but freedom of money is nothing without freedom of speech…
Hive helps us solve the rest of the need for digital freedom and no matter how bearish the market gets… I’m super bullish on the future of Hive and what we’re all up to here.

The little experience I did have with Ethereum and their insane gas fees and how long it took to get my Torum moved to Hive using Ethereum. No way I ever want to do that again. EVER. I have become a Hive maximalist since I started focusing on my Hive goals end of December and kept track of them closely. I can honestly say that sometimes I don't even check coingecko for a week as I truly don't care what the value of the rest is. Maybe I should but I have the feeling that I will not buy into other crypto until its even lower and hopefully close to the lowest point this time. The only thing I will consider buying earlier is Hive related.
So I think I'm a Hive maximalist as the other stuff currently can't warm me up one bit :) No shocking portfolios either, what a blessing! I can still remember checking coingecko every 30 mins and panic when things went south lol

I saw some news about Celsius and it certainly looks like there are issues. I am starting to think about moving out my crypto off the centralized exchanges and moving them to a place that is safer. The interest isn't worth the risk even if I want the crypto to work for me.

It is in bad times and under pressure that the true nature of people is known. There are many people against diversification but it is at these times when it is useful.
it makes us who we are. i know hive members have been through a lot. we’re built for this.
BTC and HIVE are the only genuinely decentralised blcokchains with real world use cases that are independent of crypto speculation.
I have to take issue with the idea that the only thing you can do with BTC is look at it.
I've been increasingly using it for real world payments to service providers.
for everyday people, it’s very hard to use bitcoin. i’m sure there are use cases but for mr. smith down the road, adoption is far away.
Maybe for Mr Smith but not for Mr Hernandez!
BTC adoption for real world usage is extensive and rapidly increasing, its just mainly in the 2nd and 3rd world (which will become the 1st world as a result).

I think the good thing is that there's something for everyone here. I mean, EVERYONE. For me, it's straight up blogging and talking to people - i tried dabbling in tokens and in the end realised it was communication and creativity I loved, and the global village. But others are here for gaming, or whatever - that's why it's so awesome. I can't even really remember the last time I was on Hive Engine for any length of time!
That's probably the best thing about Hive: it offers something for everyone. Blogging is how I came here, but there's also gaming, video, podcasting, trading, tokens, marketing, investing, money management, memes, photography, etc.

leofinance.io; I hope this doesn't affect anything for you or for me.As far as Bitcoin is concerned, most of us are misusing it. As with any money, Bitcoin is meant to be used, not hoarded like a stock. One day this will change, but for now, it will be treated like a stock for a long time.
From this point of view, DOGE is a better money than BTC. Regardless of what anyone thinks of Dogecoin, DOGE gets used like money: bought, sold, exchanged, and circulated as payment. That's all we can really expect from any cryptocurency, including HIVE.
As with DOGE, HIVE is a better money than BTC. and for the same reasons. Needless to say, HIVE is better than DOGE, but for other reasons!
