The Promise of Hive

in LeoFinance2 days ago

This post is going to be a little bit different than you may be used to from Jongo!

Over the past few days, I've really revisited my journey on the blockchain. And wanted to share a few thoughts about it...Specifically for anyone new to this community and token!

It started December of 2017....I was fresh off the experience of losing pretty much everything in my life. Home, business, money....I was at the end of my ropes. But had this desire to re-build because, well I'm stubborn....

I discovered this blockchain called 'Steem' from an old cloud mining faucet site and was blown away at what I discovered. It was essentially a blogging platform that rewarded you in crypto!!!

Blogging was part of my old business, so it was the perfect match. And as I was in the market for a new way to send and receive payments (PayPal shut my account down without warning in April of 2017 after 17 years of being in business together), this blockchain almost seemed too good to be true!

Here's what happened to yours truly....I went all in!

Steem (which became Hive after the hardfork) became my life. I dedicated every ounce of my being into this community. I build tools for it, developed services, created a community token, became an evangelist for it....When I say Hive became my life and focus, it was.

And I was rewarded for it.

Now don't think I became a darling of the whales and was making hundreds every time I pressed publish...But it was nice to see the rewards come in. I started at zero, with next to no fiat to invest, just time, and built my account up to almost 150,000 tokens.

And yeah, I have much less than that now, but that's where this story becomes.....The promise of Hive!

You see, because I kept my head down and just added as much value as I could, over the years I built a steady income of rewards from my efforts. No, it didn't set me up for retirement, but Jongo....Why do you only have 20,000 Hive Power left now?

Hive literally....Saved my life.

Since 2017, I have been slowly rebuilding after the PayPal debacle. From a 6 figure income to zero overnight, does a toll on you. But I wouldn't have changed a thing...

My family and I struggled, but slowly...We picked up the pieces. All the while, I focused on Hive because I knew there was something to this place.

Now, does this blockchain have some issues?

Absolutely....I've gone over them quite a bit over the years. Literally nothing online is perfect, trust me LOL I've looked...

But what this did was allow me to focus on my passion, re-build my life and support my family these past few years. And that eventually ended up with my family being able to purchase a home last year. It was the cherry on top!

I'm a man of faith, and obviously I will give credit to God. But in only ways He knows, I truly believe He led me here. And put it on my heart to....Build.

And that's my message to anyone that's new here...You can start with nothing on this blockchain, and if you expect miracles overnight and instant whale votes....That won't happen. But you can BUILD here. You can invest your TIME here. And hopefully you see, after 7 years, going on 8 for me....It's been worth it.

My new journey here is to rebuild my stake....Slowly this time :)

Because I never know when this blockchain will save my life again...

All it takes is butter chicken, the rest is history :) Good memories!

Yes!!!!! All that is required!!!!

It's been a pleasure to be on this journey with you bro!

Right back at ya man!

I am new on this place and trying to figure out a lot of stuffs over here.
Your story is inspiring and good enough to motivate newbies to stay long term on hive. I will follow your advice and invest my time here to build a good holding of hive power.
At this stage I don't know what is good or not good but for me it's all good and I enjoy this journey

Been a journey - predate you a few months - long gone are the days of $1300 intro posts. But I keep pegging away at a buck a day. The best part is when Hive gets its mojo back all that 55k HP will be a tidy number.

I understand completely. I also had a pretty successful AdSense business about 20 years ago - I got enough to provide for my family. I was already thinking of just doing that. But after about five years, Google blocked me without any warning. And, believe me, I was looking for something to focus on for a long time. I've been here for a while now, growing more slowly, but I'm just doing what I want to do. And it's gradually coming back to me.

That's a blessing for sure! I remember the Ad Sense days for sure. Lots of history there! Awesome to hear it provided for you and your family!

Yes, I got another average salary, around €700 in Slovenia. Now it is about €1500.

Here's to the next 8 years!

Yessir!!!!

It is honestly a nice thing to have in your back pocket as a fallback. I powered down most of my mere 11k all-time-high and it helped us get a new vehicle/pay down some debt. Not ideal, but it was a nice option to have that so many folks don't at all.

it's fantastic for that. Might not be built as quick as some of us would like, but it really helps you out in a pinch!

Oh ya one of the OGs from back in the day when I first joined too. Funny how similar mindsets can take you on entirely different paths and you end up in pretty much the same place like we have. Obviously I don’t build tools and go all in like you did but I have lived here every day for those years as well.

Hive hasn’t saved my life as much as it has enriched it and given me 30000 lottery tickets that may pay off someday. If not, I have met plenty of nice people, tried to do my building in the form of networking, and it has helped me with my writing for sure.

Looking forward to seeing what the next 7 years brings!

I think that's the most exciting thing about it all...What if these lottery tickets finally strike :)

Great Story, great promise, Jon. 💪🏻

Glad you enjoyed it :)

Hoping you still are a Leo whale!

Over 100k staked....On route to 150k and Apex Lion!

Awesome!

Hive isn't perfect, but it's a great place to be. I am glad it was able to help out your life, and I know its been a struggle for you.

Hive is a life saver and I’ve never for once regretted being here
It keeps getting better

That story deserves a book. You can write it.

Cool post. Good reminder for those of us that sometimes are super frustrated with a growth at times. Still a great place to hang out.

It is for sure. And if you pull out and look at the big picture...Anyone can create and get rewarded. Just dont expect whale support every day lol

Good luck and congratulations.

Thank ya!

Good luck on the new journey.

Appreciated :)

Very inspiring story.
