Earlier today, the @town-hall witness team hosted our second community meet up! And after the session, I had to run off to work but it gave me time to ponder everything that was brought up.
A huge thanks to everyone that stopped by and of course, all the team members from the incredible apps on the blockchain. You guys made the event such a huge success and we can't thank you enough!
And talk about excitement :)
While I don't have the exact numbers yet, here's what I can tell you so far:
- The Spaces had 167 live attendees and listeners to the event!
- It's been replayed so far, over 1100 times!
- The Threadcast on InLeo has just under 1200 comments and threads!
I mean, personally I haven't been this excited about 'numbers' in a long long time. And to think, it's just the beginning! We plan on hosting these every month and seeing them grow is our goal for sure.
However it was brought up, that there may even be a market or opportunity for some break-away sessions throughout the month. No matter what happens, seeing the members of the community so fired up was truly inspiring.
Take aways for me was:
Hive Is Remarkable
We have a community of #web3 enthusiasts that actually live, breathe and work n this blockchain every single day. The passion was evident and if anyone ever questions the community on Hive, I believe they are missing out on it's greatest asset!
The dApps Are Our Future
Hearing from @actifit @liketu @peakd @dbuzz @wrestorgonline @waivio @leofinance @vsc.network was amazing. There are no egos here when it comes to these applications. Just founders and team members that truly care about Hive and all it's potential. Incredible to have each of them share their thoughts and ideas about how this blockchain can grow!
Onboarding Is Cool, Retention Is Better
I think we can all agree...Onboarding is a major issue for this chain! And hearing from each app, they have plans to tackle it. However the idea of retention was brought up more than once and the question must be asked...How do we keep people here, once we get them? That can be a @town-hall session all in itself :)
The Rewards Pool Talk Got People Fired Up
LOL Let's just say, this was the hot topic of the session! The majority of the Thread on LEO after the show, was addressing concerns about this topic. Nothing like a little bit of news, gossip and scandal to get people fired up huh? Big shout out to @r0nd0n for stirring the pot :)
All in all, this was such an amazing experience. And we hope everyone enjoyed the talk and got value from it! But we've got some work to do on the witness side of things too. Plenty of planning and outreach will be taking place as well as getting outside of our normal channels to attract new community members!
This is what I tried to get across on the talk this morning...
Community is king here.
It's always been king.
And when Hive focuses on the power of community, nothing can stop this blockchain.

I confess, I was shocked when I heard @r0nd0n mention doing away with the rewards pool. I was even more shocked to hear some of the leading dapp developers agree that could be a long-term goal. The thought that came to my mind was how some people might see that as a classic whale move to get theirs then shut the gate on everyone else getting a piece of the pie. Hive already has a perception of being beneficial only to the whales and no one else, usually from former Hive users.
The encouraging part about that is that everyone seems to agree that the rewards pool as it is currently programmed is an issue that should be tackled. Downvotes, in particular, seem to be a concern.
I agree with @nathansenn that 95 percent of downvotes are legitimate downvotes. Maybe more. But there are those that are contentious and malicious, unfortunately. And it plays a part in the retention issue that you mentioned. @unklebonehead and I have begun discussing that on the Defluenced podcast (see the Hive5 episodes with @kencode; S2Ep26, 27, and 28).
I'm looking forward to the next town hall. I'm really glad the community is having this discussion and having it in a mature way.
It's nice to see that it is going well. Is there a re-run for the town halls? I don't think I can get there live or I am most likely to forget.
Here is the show :)
Thanks for the link. I'll listen to it tomorrow.
Signed up now @jongolson =)
Interesting initiative. The community should be the most important thing in Hive.

Que bien vamos creciendo 😁, es un buen número de personas interactuando en web 3.0
It was definitely interesting. I sat through most of it, but I had to leave couple of times to take care of things at work. I'm not saying I am opposed to getting rid of the HIVE rewards pool, but they need to do their homework before they go down that road. Right now the communities can't sustain themselves without it. They would need to ensure that isn't the case lest they all collapse.
It is cool to see that Hive comes up with different ways of improvement
This is cool
This was very interesting to read about. And you write good.
Thanks for sharing it here.
