A quick post!
To battle my anxiety and other inner demons, I dust off a shiny coin that bought me back to my carefree little pirate days. In a nutshell, my father shared with me from his coin collection. While he let me play pirate with most of his circulated raw coins, this is one of some coins he held back from my careless abandoned handling as evidenced by the lack of chocolate coin finger prints on the cardboard flip.
Even today, I never understood why he picked this date coin. With a mintage of 5,884,000 not including those from the two other New Orleans & San Francisco mints, it’s not a low mintage year. Nor an error coin in any form. And looks like a strong EF grade at worst or weak AU by my unprofessional grading qualifications.
I recall him mentioned buying it from a friend in Seattle and not from a coin shop lingering back in my vague memories. Vague, as in not really paying attention, so whatever the reason, it was important. My first guess that it was a birthday, but whom in the family tree?
It was perhaps a mistake to throw out the handful of business cards that were tucked in haphazard under his collection case. A regrettable decision on my part as it would give me a hint to this coin’s pedigree if it had one.
What counts is that it is one he cherished, and the strong bonds that formed between us by sharing his passion. A coin I’ve classified as NSF, Not For Sale!
Now my "Power Up!"

That’s a very nice Morgan Kerris, my guess from the nice detail on the breast feathers is MS63 or MS64. Well done
I'm not familiar on grading US coins and where the high points are but I am much more familiar with Canadian coins. Important is that this Morgan is lovely and has sentimental value for it's connection to my father, I'm so glad I have.

I should tell you that all the scratches will bring its collector value down... But if I'm right about the Monetary Correction and the Special Deals being offered by the U.S. Treasury, your Silver Dollar can be Exchanged for a New One Ounce, $10 U.S. Silver Coin, with the Spending Power of 1,000 of today's Fiat USDs...
I still have the Silver Dollar my Father gave me... So, you probably won't want to Exchange it, I'm sure...
Having sentimental value of course.

It's a substantial quantity but for security reasons it is not my policy to show my entire stack. That would just put a target on my back. Hence, I periodically put up a Tamashiguri gif as a warning that this stack is guarded.

A good idea @fat-elvis, I have seen a slab-your-own coin kit with a generic label. More simple is to get a capsule but it would be also in a baggie with a card kind of thing so that my kids will know the history of this coin. Or stay in it's vintage cardboard flip.

Some coins never mind the grading, are "Choice never to circulate"!😀Coins like the Morgan from your Father, are worth more than Gold @kerrislravenhill 😇
If it weren't for him I may have gone about life as a black sheep distracted by the bread and circuses and not have awakened to reality and become a Precious metals and crypto stacker.

Sometimes things we think we don't or won't need turn out to be the very thing that might help, such as the business cards you dad had. Just remembering that it was special is awesome and I don't blame you for NFS on it. Just the fact that it's over 100 years old makes it special in my book.

I'll just have to speculate or extrapolate. Digging into the past 1898 does coincide with a great great grandfather's birth year. YES! We're almost on target.

Stacking Morgan’s 🪙
I gotta showcase a few I got in my bunker in PA (aka my uncles basement safe)
This is not my only Morgan, just the best one of the 9 Morgans I had handed down to me, along with 7 Peace dollars, a 1923 is uncirculated. Therefore, I can claim to own a legit stack of Morgans and a stack of Peace dollars.

My dentist at the time was fully aware of my sweet tooth addiction claiming many of my baby teeth, my adult teeth we're not spared any quarter either however I didn't end up as a pudgy pirate having burned off the calories quick enough.

Anyone who has a siller around at this time should not sale it at all because it will go up in price in the coming days and I also plan to put some money in next month and I will also power up.
It would hard for me to sell since I had great memories associated with my father. If I had to, I already have generic silver to sell first before giving this one up.
